Norm,
That would have been a weird feeling walking on a pool of mercury. I never imagined that could happen as I had not gone into the how and what about how it was mined. Anyway I'm keeping my bottle of the stuff even though they are phasing out mercury mining.

There's no need for displacement current to explain electromagnetism. Just treat capacitors as transmission lines. Floyd sweet explains that every signal takes time to move between two separate points which prevents the instant propagation of displacement current. Ivor Catt describes capacitors as transmission lines (http://www.ivorcatt.org/icrwiworld78dec1.htm). The signal enters the capacitor foils at a single point (or at two points) and must travel to the edges of the foils making capacitors rolled up or stacked transmission lines with the laws governing transmission lines. Catt is or was controversial when introducing a third theory of transmission lines. The theory describing what happens the most accurate way must be the best one no matter if the old theoreticians like Newton Maxwell or Einstein are treated like gods in scientific circles. Engineers may have personal experience of the phenomena happening when designing devices and thus use whatever theory that can explain the observations no matter what is written in old books. I think this is also why Tesla laughed at the theoreticians because he had his own experiences to draw from while the theoreticians made thought experiments that didn't fit the actual observations. We must learn and get wiser if we want to progress and this even if having to change or discard established theory. This is what the scientific method is about. According totransmission line theory the energy is running in thespace between the wires. At least this holds for goodconductors. Even good metallic conductors like silver haveresistance which dissipates the energy. Superconductorsdon't have this problem but still have some max levelwhere they can guide the energy. Where the fields meet thesurface of the conductor the fields are mirrored. Thus thesurface of the conductor has to be a perfect mirror of thefields to be superconductive. T.J.J. See formulated it something like the forces atextremely small distances are extremely great. Or forfields at extremely thin wires the field intensity isextremely high which can ionize the air or dielectric tobe able to move the energy. Plasma is also a very goodconductor that can have even negative resistancecharacteristics from impact ionization. Thus it takes outenergy from the molecules that are hit by chargedparticles making even more ions and charged particles. I would like to see a replication of Floyd Sweets frostedwires. He knew about transmission line theory according tohis document 'Nothing is Something' where he refers toIvor Catt and W.J. Hooper. Hi Norman,
I would prefer something that's not as harmful as those high power energy discharges. I remember Wolfgang Volkroot warning about microwaves and high energy discharges. Volkroot was chief of a Siemens high energy test lab and saw his coworkers doing the high energy discharges become sick when working with those EM radiating events for years. He also warned about microwaves that made the forests between the then East and West Germany die in straight lines where there were microwave links and powerful radars pointing to the east and west blocks. His opinion back then was that this was getting solved by using fiber optic links instead of microwaves. He should have known the coming revolution in mobile phones which now have microwave transmitters almost everywhere. It was said that enough data to know if mobile phones are harmful would be gathered in 20 years. Haven't we reached that time span now and what is the conclusion? If they're harmful will they be made illegal or is it up to the users to decide for themselves.
Conclusion is that I would prefer to avoid those EMP events and use something less harmful. The EMPs may harm other things then sensitive electronics. Humans don't have senses to fell electromagnetic radiations except for the one octave optical range and perhaps one or two octaves of of infrared radiation. Thus we can't feel the radiation if harmful or not.

Ole

Hi Mick,
TVS diodes are rated for some max power dissipation andperhaps some max energy too (fusing energy I^2t). Ifapplying more energy than the max i^2t rating it melts. Asbeing fast Zener diodes they clamp the voltage at somelevel while having current through them at the same timewhich means power dissipation in them. If reading EMC(EMI) theory several stages are needed to protect forpowerful EMP transients. The first step is a spark gap.The spark gap is followed by a varistor that is followedby a TVS or Zener diode. The spark gap breaks down to lowimpedance which reflects or dissipates much of the energyof the signal. The varistor is a solid state spark in somemetal grains and has the same purpose as the spark gap.the TVS or Zener diode stage removes the rest of theenergy to protect the sensitive electronics. It isessential to know how the electromagnetic radiation istransferred between the different stages to prevent itfrom reaching the sensitive electronics. Every currentloop transmits the energy as a very penetrating magneticfield. That magnetic energy has to be dissipated orreflected which can be done with electrical conductivematerials like iron or aluminum. The field induces currentin the screening material which requires only connectingthe circuit inside the screen to a single point. Audioguys probably have experienced this when buildingamplifiers.
A thyristor (SCR) crowbar is also a good protection. Itshorts the pulse just like a spark gap and then blows afuse to disconnect the circuit to be protected..

Hi Norm,

I would like to replicate the events through theplasma that Iachieved as it creates a huge magnetic pulse that canbe harvestedbut as you say gets to kill the solid state stuff asif the TVSdiodes were not even there. At least the ferroresonantamplification without the plasma gap just cooks theTVS diodeslike popcorn even though rated at 1000 amps with onlyabout 2 amp23v input, but spared the rest, I guess it chose atthe diodes tomanifest. Oh yeah the ferrotranny was connected with30 guagewire wrap wire when the 1000 amps TVS diodes explodedfrom 46w andwire was fine. Have not built the tube circuits yetjust workingon the solid state grid control circuits first thenplan todecouple with something similar to cascode sohopefully thesuperfast gate driver does not cook.
Not sure if Ole's snubber network would stop theevent but havethe feeling so since caps will suppress the rise timeand killringing, but have not tried so can't say. Seems to methe eventis created right at the switch and the rise in voltageis like theinertia x acceleration before the end of a whip cracksandnecessary.

What if the Arc/Spark is part of theactual process ingetting more energy?
Every O/U thing I've ever though workedusually had aPlasm or Arc/Spark.
Usually not intentionally and the designeralwayswanted to get rid of it.

Do you remember in High School Chemistry class when you applied heat to mercuric oxide in a closed retort the condensate was liquid mercury. I guess the low level heat in a boarded up mercury mine in the NM desert was enough to make the mercury pools over many years. You can Google the location of the old mines down in NM. Actually there are old mines in many states with California being the most populated. see: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/32900375/ns/us_news-environment/t/mercury-still-leaking-closed-calif-mine-sites/#.W_5l-eJRc2w On 11/27/2018 6:29 PM, george gray [email protected] [EVGRAY] wrote: > Norm, > > That would have been a weird feeling walking on a pool of mercury. Ole, this is all so correct. I have lived and learned just enough to be dangerous. Lol When I first hand witness an anomalous event in electrical applications, my response is curiosity instead of writing it off as most folks do. A thought that has been popping up in my mind is the definition of reciprocal, https://www.dictionary.com/browse/reciprocal where in conventional theory we have copper or other metals as conductors where as in the opposite (negative energy) the dielectric is the conductor and the metals become the dielectric. Maybe we are looking in the wrong places for our solution. Just a thought. Bearden told me once to think opposite. BTW, Joel & I made a trip to Atlanta, GA in spring of 1995 to demonstrate our MRA device to the Procurement Officer of IBM Corp. and two of his EE engineering. They were blown away with what they saw and we were told that IBM had a blank check for our technology if we could successfully get a Patent. Dr. Bass, Hughes Aircraft was our Patent Attorney. On return trip back to Dallas we stopped at Tom Beardens place in Huntsville, AL and gave him a working MRA device at which time he totally explained his MEG device for which he was assembling a team to do the Patent. Bearden fully explained all that Floyd Sweet had divulged regarding the Negative Energy and the incompatibility in our frame of reference. Thoughts? I acquired the display piece from Stanford University Physics Dept. Linear Accelerator Lab, (SLAC) which was a Van de Graff 6 ft tall with chrome dome, rubber belt and all. I donated it to the Tesla Museum at Colorado Springs. I built all sorts of influence machines, Whinshurst, Holtz etc. Lot of fun experimenting with them. I never bought the theory of how they worked from High School Science Class. Lots more going on here. DougIt reminds me of Howard Johnsons prototype I saw. The little tiny bits of hammer smashed magnets, carefully glued just so, in a gravel like array, along his tracks, where the car would go. It was like a scenic embankment, populated with chunky gravel stones, in a model rail road, large scale. He used early seventies five minute epoxy, rather than hot glue. It seemed to work just fine.Until I read up on it, I was unaware of how much consideration went into each and every one of those magnet crumbs, as to the position, and orientation. It makes you wonder, how did he read the magnets? A little hiker 's compass? In any event, he sure overcame the block wall, that any of us working with magnet motors, were challenged with. It was a blue bastard to overcome, but old Howard Johnson pulled it off, and made an, all magnet, self runner, back then. Too bad he messed with aluminium, and eddy currents, which he didn't know about.Cheers Warren Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Wed, 28 Nov 2018 at 12:57 AM, [email protected] [EVGRAY]<[email NormanI made a Van De Graaff generator about five feet high with an 18" steel ball on top.It was steel because at that time I was able to form, and weld steel very easily, as opposed to some other metals. I spun the steel in hemispheres, on the lathe over a laminated wood form, then weld the two halves together, after detailing the method of attachment to the plastic column. I curved the hole in a gentle radius into the inside of tje sphere, having no sharp edges.Surprisingly, this Van De Graaff worked rather well, reliably giving a 14" spark every few seconds.I drove it with a dc shunt wound Bodine motor of 1/10 hpIt just ran a rubber belt between pulleys with wire brushes at either end of the belt. That seems to be the entire load of the motor, under all conditions.Cheers Warren. Hi Norman, I remember Ivor Catt mentioned that copper could actually have infinite high dielectric constant or relative permittivity. https://wiki2.org/en/Permittivity https://wiki2.org/en/Permittivity https://wiki2.org/en/Relative_permittivity https://wiki2.org/en/Relative_permittivity I once measured the propagation speed of electromagnetic fields through a ferrite ring. This speed is quite slow compared to its speed in vacuum meaning the product of the permittivity and permeability is larger for ferrite than for vacuum. This is used in one of the equations that is forbidden by scientists but are very useful in engineering (Forrest Bishop discussing the Catt question formula 5 here: http://www.naturalphilosophy.org/pdf/abstracts/abstracts_paperlink_7395.pdf http://www.naturalphilosophy.org/pdf/abstracts/abstracts_paperlink_7395.pdf). W.J. Hooper did some measurements of the signal speed of charges through a copper wire in his motional electric field generator. The motional electric field can't be screened and may actually be what causes gravity according to W.B. Smith and W.J. Hooper. The motional electric field is caused by moving charges. The field strength E_motional is the vector product or cross product: E_motional = B X v where B is the magnetic field strength of the moving charges and v is the speed of the charges. For a high field strength of the motional electric field the vector product of the magnetic field strength and the electric field strength of the moving charges is necessary. Hooper found that in copper the charge carriers moved faster the colder the wire was. The speed is still very slow for the currents he was able to run through the zig zagging wire which was some 30A if I remember correct. The wire was cooled by dry ice. Floyd Sweet may have made a much more powerful motional electric field by using ferrite magnets. The figures he uses in his document are the same ones used by Hooper. Sweet used the theory of Hooper. The Russian antigravity device or levitation device of Alexey Chekurov may use exactly that same motional electric field. Chekurov has the charges on the rotating metal discs. Their rotation while charged creates the normal magnetic field which is canceled by making the discs spin in opposite directions. But by using the not smooth surface discs the charges are better forced to follow the discs while spinning. This I guess gives a great motional electric field which is what lifts the device from the ground if Smith and Hooper are correct. The field may have to be shaped in some direction like diverged to or away from some point or points. Larry Wandell also shows the interaction of a permanent magnetic field lifting gold aluminum and wood. Actually I'm not sure the video with the wood sample is active anymore. Anyway Wandell charges the samples with a handheld Van de Graaff generator and then lifts the nonmagnetic samples with a permanent magnet. It only works with the samples charged: https://www.youtube.com/user/bluedoaify/videos https://www.youtube.com/user/bluedoaify/videos BTW when reading the Bearden MEG patent it looks like they have forgotten the parasitic reverse diode in such devices due to being NP (or PN) semiconductors. The spikes going back to the battery goes through those parasitic diodes. Regards Ole ---In [email protected], <nwootan@...> wrote : Ole, this is all so correct. I have lived and learned just enough to be dangerous. Lol When I first hand witness an anomalous event in electrical applications, my response is curiosity instead of writing it off as most folks do. A thought that has been popping up in my mind is the definition of reciprocal, https://www.dictionary.com/browse/reciprocal https://www.dictionary.com/browse/reciprocal where in conventional theory we have copper or other metals as conductors where as in the opposite (negative energy) the dielectric is the conductor and the metals become the dielectric. Thoughts? Just treat capacitors as transmission lines. Floyd sweet explains that every signal takes time to move between two separate points which prevents the instant propagation of displacement current. Ivor Catt describes capacitors as transmission lines (http://www.ivorcatt.org/icrwiworld78dec1.htm http://www.ivorcatt.org/icrwiworld78dec1.htm). The signal enters the capacitor foils at a single point (or at two points) and must travel to the edges of the foils making capacitors rolled up or stacked transmission lines with the laws governing transmission lines. Ole, After reading Ivor Catt doc and understanding Alfven waves and TEM we can get a better handle on the flux anninilation-reconnect phenomenon in a common high amperage switching event arc (plasma).
