Hi Mick, Even though the reactances cancel this doesn't mean that the current or charge is canceled. The energy just changes between being in the capacitor as electric field energy and being in the inductor as magnetic field energy. Each time the energy field (tempic electric and magnetic field at right angle to each other) reaches the end it is reflected back the way it came. That is when the pulse reaches the inductor it is reflected back to the capacitor and when back in the capacitor it is reflected back to the inductor an so on making oscillations. The energy just changes between being a magnetic field and an electric field. If no loss it continues forever. If breaking the connection when the energy is in the capacitor it is stored as an electric field. If shorting the circuit when the energy is in the indictor the energy is stored as a magnetic field. I.e. the coil becomes a permanent magnet. But this only works when the coil has no resistance or a closed iron core to store the energy or if using a hard magnetic material as core. Yes that's correct. Common power factor correction in AC is for eliminating the reactive power that doesn't do any work but just heats the wires between the power plant and the reactive load. This is expensive for the owners of the power transmission lines and thus should be avoided. First storing the energy in a capacitor (or inductor or battery) and then dumping it to an active load will still make the power go in just one direction even though it happens in pulses. The energy is then moving from the source to the load. Reactive power has the energy moving to and from the load and power source. Kone, It's much easier that way you are correct just investigating both concepts of AC and DC circuit harvesting. When harvesting RF if one desires to pull DC the old fashioned way Tesla did it the timing is important as one goes up a even harmonic or two to pull of the compression or refraction only. AC version and the more difficult system I think has it's uses in the more esoteric weird shit Hector talks about because if one stays in the AC realm one can induce feedback to dance with the devil and friends. I just threw out the 60 HZ time base but for design simplicity, any switching frequency can be selected. Just as the Tesla mechanical oscillators worked at a relative low frequency! Only real power is useful in doing work. Reactive power doesn't do work except for the small active part heating the the wires and other components because of their parasitic resistance. This part caused by current doing work against the resistance is active power and not actually reactive power. This is why the power distributing companies may charge costumers for having high reactive power going through their cables which heats the power lines without transferring active power to their costumers. It's just pure loss because the wires have resistance. Resistance converts electric power into heat. Hi Ole and Mick Just my measly two cent opinion but the capcitor "could" hold a charge rather than dancing back and forth with inductor if the capacitor has its charge rectified first which I believe is whole idea of diode plug and cap is timed to discharge into load too so there is power being created not just observation of resonance... Warren! Lots of thought has to go into how we approach designing a ZERO LENZ motor whether it be a linear solenoid or a rotary type motor. The solenoid type linear thrust driver is easiest to trick into the locked rotor DC input that has no back EMF or counter emf. see: files I posted on DC motor characteristics. If you are going to drive Ray's pendelium LENZ free neo generator then we have to calculate the moment of inertia needed to drive the thrust rod accounting for all inertia and loading factors. Wire turns and all the electrical parameters can be worked out very easily since we can select a time base for the as natural as possible operation of the device. How much inductive drag is there with the non metal core coil in the neo magnetic gap?? Just because he claims no LENZ effect does not mean that you generate a current or wattage load free. Kone, For harvesting you are entirely correct but if one desires to experiment with very high voltage coils with a DC bias or with RF modulated feedback that will still pass through caps without getting stuck in order to control with pos or negative feedback then one as you say uses twice the complexity. I was not referring to only 1/4 wave switched in order to accomplish the second part rather diff wave lenghts diff purposes. hard to find a diode that can sit on the output secondary of a Tesla coil for instance Sorry if we are only considering harvesting I do not mean to complicate anyone, Kone is correct. More capacitance means less flyback voltage. So start with more parallel capacitance if in doubt of the primary voltage exceeding the scope range. Norm, I am slowly digesting this but I think my concept of locked rotor was/is in error. Always thought this was when the rotor is locked to the rotational field from stator with least amount of slip, seems like I am reading now it is most amount of slip. Can you provide what locked rotor means to you and any additional information of what you think may be occurring beyond the everyday accepted definition?
