Hi Lutz, It takes certain amount of energy to magnetise the core of a transformer allowing for losses & inefficiencies in the core etc. In DC and alternating circuits, input power is worked from Volts x Amps. (without mentioning power factor). In AC circuits both the input Volts and the Amps alternate between positive and negative. When we multiply Volts times Amps, if both are positive we get positive answer or if both Volts and Amps are negative we also get positive answer. If we can introduce a time delay to either the Volts or the Amps, so that one of them is Negative whilst the other is still Positive. Then the +ve Volts x -ve Amps will give a negative answer. If input power calculation is Negative it means the flow of power is reversed and the load is supplying power to the power source. A sort of Negative resistance effect. Tesla's method was to introduce this delay by placing layers of insulated fine steel wire between primary and secondary windings (at right angles). It takes a certain time for each layer of Iron wire to become fully magnetised and the primary flux, has to fully saturate each layer before being transmitted to the next Iron wire layer. Eventually the primary input flux caused by the primary input current reaches the secondary winding and induces an output Voltage. Giving Tesla the times delay he was after. The load then starts to draw it's own current creating it's own magnetic field but it also has to negotiate the Iron wire layers to get back to the Primary. Gerry! It did not fall on deaf ears! My argument, precisely on the phase angles of A/C since waves in vector cancellation in counter wound coils! A carefully planned phase delay can make your circuits display some interesting characteristics!. Ok! Guys & Girls,I will post again several facts that I gathered from researching Tesla for the last 40 years. I have read about everything ever written about or by Tesla. Hi Kone guys, I made up a rough version of the Tesla idea using a primary winding off an old Microwave Oven Transformer (MOT). Wrapped the winding with some painted florist wire ...which took a while. Made some measurements at low power only (so far). Have attached some pics. There is a huge improvement meaning reduction in the change of phase angle (Cos phi) measuring from off load to on load. Which implies the primary doesn't "see" the complete load on the secondary. Tesla's idea seems very good. On test my simple transformer consumed 0.142 W of wasted power at 50Hz with no load ...Cos phi phase corrected. On 10 Ohms load transformer consumes 0.182 W of total power... Cos phi corrected Output power into 10 Ohm load was 50.8 mW But total increase into transformer was only 39.3 mW so we're getting about 30% more output than the change of input. Will try at higher power levels but need caution when doing this part. Hector is 100% correct about the construction of the ferroresonant transformers. Here are some of the units that I scrapped down. on the bench are the air cooled IGBT driver packs and the 5KVA transformer. They operated on 48VDC input to hammer out 208/120 VAC output. HectorNow that I have a practical application for the transverter, it is soon time to finally hook it up.I need 220 volts and 10 amps of 60 hz ac from a 120 volt supply.We know that it can be done with rotoverters, but would need a lot of them, if the four that I have now, are any indication.A word to those rotoverter builders:Put the best kind of bearings in them that you can afford, seals and all.I feel it was a mistake to gut the seals, as I did on one motor.It is true, it saves 200 ma, but reliability, and longevity of trouble free use really matters more.It is annoying to have to press a switch every time you must start one up, temporarily engaging the start capacitor, but they are reliable.Three phase motors are either free, or very expensive, depending on luck, and where you live.The transverter shouldn't need that start cap. Gerry, Can you please provide the Tesla patent or writings that led you to the use of a magnetic flux shield to outsmart Lenz?
