NormanAbout as close to being in the Navy is when we rented the Canadian Oberon class sub Onandaga, for the Neptune Factor, a film with Ernest Borgnine and Walter Pidgeon, made back in the early seventies.My boat building, and sailing, were learned by reading, and then doing, with night school navigation, and ham courses, but no navy.Military is a huge presence in American lives, we just don't have in Canada.Well, not entirely true. A lot of really terrific people moved North, during Vietnam, mostly artists, craftsmen, and small business types, and university students.So in effect, we learned of the negative effect it often had in people's lives, rather than education, and travel, that working class kids would not get unless through the military.Vietnam was a trip to the meat grinder, and exposure to bad drugs, for many kids.And yet, video games!
