Sven, I don't see how this could help you unless you build a diode plug with only the mica, but let's see if it makes any difference in addition to the bucket of water, maybe, you never know until you try. See how close to total reactive you can use to charge caps with a pair of microwave diodes, one on each leg. (you could try a full wave bridge rectifier of microwave diodes and see if it charges faster but sometimes the half wave are best.) Use some big retentive caps at high voltage, then use a buck circuit to drop the power and raise the current to about 24 volts DC then use an inverter and try to loop. As Konehead says be sure to remove one leg of the cap from your source circuit before sinking power from it and don't take all of it, leave some E in there so the impedance stays high. Or you could build a second all mica diode plug that is tuned at some high harmonic and see if anything comes out. Hi Mick, Norman, I now have about 150 to 230 uf in use on capacity. I've seen used mica caps with 330 nF on ebay if what brings them to switch is probably like a drop of water in a bucket. Hi Sven If using SCRs to switch diode plug ( I think at least) that there must be zero voltage in cap before the SCR will switch and so this means there must be emptied-completely caps after discharge in the diode plug....is this correct? If so, now it's much.more difficult to re-fill.the empty cap for next cycle as compared to a half-full cap for example. Also creates problems where in the 1/4 wave exactly things will trigger too. Try paralleled mosfets perhaps, and trigger with Ron Pugh's sinewave peak sensing circuit...use MOT as signal source and power source too for it...pretty simple very accurate connect to mosfet driver chip imput....pulse width one chip using pot, where in sinewave adjust using another pot....third chip is chopper you can bypass by connectingosfet driver to J1 in circuit. Paralell MOT HV side to AC you want to switch The high impedance will affect nothing so use low voltage side of MOTs as signal amd.power for this circuit below...use scope when adjusting timing..
