Hi Ron,

LM338t http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm338.pdf has a thermal resistance from junction to ambient of 22.9 K/W. This gives a temperature increase of about 23 degrees Celsius per Watt dissipated. Thus dissipating 5W will increase its temperature by 115K. (207 degrees Fahrenheit) That's 1A with 5V voltage drop. Use a heat sink to drastically reduce the thermal resistance to the ambient.

Alternatively use a switched mode power supply as this kind doesn't have to dissipate the excess voltage with current flow into heat.

Thanks Ole, I was trying to calibrate the ammeter at 24 volts at 2 amps so with the main supply at 38 volts it was just too much dissipation. A small heat sink got hot enough to burn the fingers! 

 However with a big heat sink and moving up to 30 volts out, it just gets warm. 
 

 I had more trouble with the DSN-VC288 (the volt amp meter) with some really strange readings until I discovered not to hook up the small black wire, just ground the big black one (ground loops)
 

 All fun and games, incidentally the thing does make a nice oily film on top of the water after 10 or 15 minutes of operation.

Ron,

At least you didn't have to pay for the thing.  And a switching supply
would work just fine if it had a choke, it's not noise that's the
problem it the ratio of B field to E field in the electricity.  The two
mixes do act differently and one can see this in sound.  For instance in
preamp designs even if a switching supply is way over the amount of
current necessary to present any kind of sag the thing still is missing
the low end balls.

Also regulation will have different sound series like your supply, or
shunt like older tube supplies.  Shunt is less efficient but in a proper
design has more solid regulation on the voltage.  I have run into the
same issue you have when trying to use linear supplies and not having
quite the right transformer on hand then having to cheat with a huge
heat sink.

Interesting you are seeing the oil though if it were me I would attempt
to make changes until it produced the most of the oil, what are you
using as electrolyte?

 This is a conventional old style transformer power supply with a LINEAR voltage regulator hung on it. I post this to support your work and you shoot me down?

NO Mich, the following is the Science we are dealing with. 

 

 I was reading just the other day that 'scientists' have measured "light" coming from the human body. We know of this as the colors of the Aura. Some can see these colors and make a diagnosis of the state of health of the individual. Others can see the variant of colors in power plants like hemp, mushrooms and other medicinal herbs. It could be likened to the choice of inert gas within a Light bulb or tube and the frequency of Light emitted. All my audio boards I make have curved traces some I silver plate but I
prefer point to point.  Try putting a big ass choke across a switching
supply with enough load current available and prove me wrong one wants
the electricity stored as a magnetic field.  I also use all silver
cables with inert teflon insulation.  Tesla suppressed the E field in
favor of the B field.  Barely any engineering has been done concerning B
field electricity aside from transformer designers and they sometimes
have some arcane knowledge.  Solid state junctions are noisy get rid of
them, use tube rectifiers...

I am suspecting no electrolyte needed.
Otherwise it will mimic only what it comes into as an energy.

I was replying to Ole who said you should use a switching power supply and gave the reasons why its inferior tech. Sorry for the confusion. I uploaded a pic onto your cloud to show the varients of models.

Try  a direct solar panel connection with a resistor is series. That will show 100% input power reduction with same work done otherwise.

Solar cells do electrolyte magic.

 At least you didn't have to pay for the thing.  And a switching supply would work just fine if it had a choke, it's not noise that's the problem it the ratio of B field to E field in the electricity.  The two mixes do act differently and one can see this in sound.  For instance in preamp designs even if a switching supply is way over the amount of current necessary to present any kind of sag the thing still is missing the low end balls.
 Also regulation will have different sound series like your supply, or shunt like older tube supplies.  Shunt is less efficient but in a proper design has more solid regulation on the voltage.  I have run into the same issue you have when trying to use linear supplies and not having quite the right transformer on hand then having to cheat with a huge heat sink.
 Interesting you are seeing the oil though if it were me I would attempt to make changes until it produced the most of the oil, what are you using as electrolyte?

Ron’s choice of waters will on average, wear out the rings between 5 and 10 uses. 
 

 Problematic,  after two twenty minute sessions there is no sign of 'corrosion', very fine pitting under magnification only.
 

 The above is not statically valid at this time I admit but Victoria's water is of the highest quality, with a TDS of only 02.3. So I think 30 to 50 uses might be achieved.
 

 And this is just the two positive plates which are just 1 mm aluminum, easy enough to hack out with a circle cutter and fine tune in the lathe, not a problem.

 Electricity, as played with on this forum, is a flow of Magnetic Current. As everything is Magnetic, their Magnetic Fields interact and one could say this flow is an equalization of the vibrations and they go in both directions. To look at the Lemon Battery, the choice of metals stuck in the Lemon has a bearing or variance on this (Bio-Magnetic ) electricity. To claim its all just electrons, one misses the interesting variance that magnetism has on Biological life. It could be likened to the choice of inert gas within a Light bulb or tube and the frequency of Light emitted. So too, the choice or source of electricity has a variance of Frequency for the Bio Field generated or the Magnetic Field Generated. Ordinary ‘blind’ humans cannot see this difference.
  
 The Aqua Chi Water Module was designed with this extra sensory vision to make a Magnetic Field that resembled Bio Energy Light as a way to enhance its Field Strength and thus the Vibrant Energy Field of the Human by charging the Bio Field with compatible Light energy as 'Everything is the Light'. Lead frequencies are non-beneficial to life force energy. There are a number of reasons why there is a Copper Neutral in the commercially available AQ water module. It is a Positive charge metal as is the Field of the Human a South Pole Positive Energy Field unit. (not a carbon based unit Mr Spock) It helps to override the Noise of other elemental frequencies and it activates cellular functions of human tissue, making even the Nerves more ‘super conductive’.
  
 In the building of Muscles in Gym exercises, the Energy (everything is Energy) comes from several sources. Direct Sunlight, the positive charge of the air we breathe, the liquid electrical energy of the Water we drink and the Bio Energy radiated from Microbes decomposing the food we eat. All these energy sources combine to create new Cells in the human body to fulfill the need for stronger muscles in this example. No food particles like ‘calcium’ from Milk builds bones. The body transmutes calcium from sources that have this calcium frequency like leafy greens with the energy supplied by the above 4 sources. Biologists still think the Central Nervous System is just about activating muscles by a conscious thought or some autonomous action by the brain or tingling the nerves to avoid being burnt. When walking on the tread mill, the energy from the Battery Brain is directed to the walking muscles to build Muscle !! Switching power supplies have too many frequencies or noise for quality enhancement.
  
 JoeCell Bio Field Enhancement is different to the Aqua Chi Bio Enhancement in that JoeCells work better on PURE FLAT LINE DC. While Joe does use Telecom Rectifiers (really old school stuff) its partly because there is a ‘feedback’ SOUND in the change of Humm from the power supply as the water CYCLES through its Energy Formats. This is a new subject in that water has 5 energy formats of observable energy fields; Electrical, Magnetic, ImPlosive/ExPlosive, Aetheric Inertial/friction and LIFE FORCE.  If the Aqua Chi is powered by old school transformers rather than switching power supplies, the water into oil production is greatly augmented as well. It just requires research and Lab testing. The type of WATER has a bearing on the Field Generated and this includes the addition of any electrolytes but that’s a subject for another time in understanding the composition of Water and its electro-magnetic properties. The BEST water is that which is PURE and Charged by the Earth as in Spring water or Primary water, glacial melt a little downstream, most ‘upstream’ waters and some underground waters. The correct water for Elixir Making with the Aqua Chi (for Sensory Enhancement with precious metals in the Field) will be highly conductive and test little to zero ppm of other frequencies and the rings in the water module will show NO signs of wear after many dozens of uses.
