Depends on the impedance and reactance of the load vs the circuit one is
measuring inclusive of the measuring device in circuit.  This is the
reason they make active probes to allow for even less loading than the
x10setting  on the passive probe.

One should use both a high quality shunt resistor with differential
probe to measure current in addition to the voltage probe in order to
perform accurate power measurements.

The why is a big why without complex analysis however if you are really
seeing overunity with the unshielded probes they could be capacitive
coupling the circuit (like and antenna) and adding just the right amount
of phase change.  Try taking the old probes and using them with a
resistor shorting the end at the same load as your scope, 1 meg, to see
if the magic returns.

I made a few Spiralled coiled Field Generators to wrap around water pipes that uses precious metals to give fertilizer frequencies to irrigation water.  Giving mankind freer ‘electrical’ energy will see him only destroy the planet and himself faster IMO. Giving mankind freer Magnetic Field Generators will allow him to understand why he’s destroying his planet and himself exponentially faster.

When using shielded cable this is like using transmission lines. Using coaxial cables is using cables with the parameters of the cable or transmission line held constant along the cable length. Oscilloscope probes use coaxial cables between the probe and the scope input. Most scope inputs are 1 MOhm but also comes with 50 Ohm inputs. An 1 MOhm input can easily be changed to a 50 Ohm input by putting a 50 Ohm feed through connector directly at the input terminal. This makes it possible to use a 50 Ohm coaxial cable to feed the signal to the scope input without reflections. This is necessary when measuring a weak signal at low impedance like across a current shunt as this avoids drowning the signal in noise. It's also important to use the correct probe fit for the scope input and correctly compensated. Else the signal seen at the screen isn't as the signal at the probe tip. Also avoid using long ground wires on the probe as this will pick up induced magnetic fields from the ambient by the loop formed. This is like a one winding pick-up coil.

HermesWhen I test over unity projects, I find that my instruments some times give crazy readings just being digital. I then put out old fashioned analog instruments.Still, there is another way. If it is a suitable voltage range, put a fast schottky 1000 volt diode on it, and run a load. I like big tread mill motors that I can see the shaft turning something like a big pulley.You might not know anything about the nature of what is being produced, but you will certainly have evidence that matter is moving, and putting a rag against the big pulley let's you know about the dynamics you are dealing with.You can then compare it with a table saw, or a bench grinder, or a desk fan and get a general idea based on your experience, of what you are seeing.In my sail boat, I noticed that the propeller shaft of the auxiliary engine turned while sailing out in the water with the engine off.I looked at that slow turning shaft, and thought hmmmmmm?The boat was sailing away, not going particularly fast, perhaps six knots. I had a GPS that gave speed over ground, and among sailors there was always debate whether turning shafts and propellers slowed down a vessel as they are turned by the boat going through the water. Curious, I took out my big 16" pipe wrench and set the jaws against the coupling just back of the engine.Bam! I NEARLY BROKE MY ARM! The wrench ripped out of my hands and slammed against the hull with terrible force. The propeller shaft stopped. Wow! That was torque!I ended up later, belting a permanent magnet motor to the propeller shaft, doing the final welding in a blacksmith's shop in Castries, St Lucia so I could remotely engage the generator with lever and cable.By the way , it made zero difference to the speed of the vessel, but was a huge improvement in the quality of life on board, with radar, refrigeration, and so on, while on long passages at sea, under sail.
My SSB radio could use 20 amps while transmitting. Long chats used to kill batteries.It is what we can apply devices to that really proves their merits.Cheers Warren
