Kone, What have you found to be good gate drivers? I am looking for a really fast optocoupler MOSFET gate driver in one piece that may be recommended by the people here who have hands on experience. If the data going in and out of the arduino to the gate drivers is not decoupled (optocoupled) then there will be issues. Also the optocouplers-gate- drivers-mosfet need to be fast without ringing so need some type of snubbing cap and load like a simple zobel network to impedance match the circuit just like a transmission line. In order to attain really fast performance a hex inverter chip can be used as a flip flop it can switch nano fast but then needs the impedance matched decoupled gate driver setup. Also in the case of issues with coil spikes causing problems in electronics it may be interesting to use differential balanced input just like a balanced mic cable works to annihilate common mode noise. This could likely be accomplished very simply and passively with pulse transformers. So try the following where a one way valve is needed and can be thought of as the check valve on a hydroxy gen going to a motor. DougI am now putting together an Arduino based frequency controller for the Samsung motor as in Patrick K's most recent chapter 32.As I am doing it, it seems to make quite a bit of sense.The major focus is on the radio frequency DC pulses delivered,with precision, to the motor coil clusters.I like it, so far, because it is simple, and inexpensive.I haven't got it working yet.I am attaching the Samsung washing machine motor to my 2.5 kw 3600 rpm generator. My big lathe is still in Toronto, but I can still do accurate work with a drill press, and a chop saw, as you know, aluminium plate works well with wood working machinery.Putting the Samsung directly on the end of the generator, is the way to go, since one can take advantage of the generator shaft, and bearings.I am not used to mail order electronic parts, as I could just drive to the stores in Toronto, to pick up whatever I needed.Out in the country, you really have to think ahead, and be patient about delivery.I am held up by three stupid IN4148 signal diodes!I arrogantly assumed I had every diode a guy could need. A IN4007 should do. Uh, uh, nope! Too slow, Patrick is pretty good at designing circuits, or at least editing the information he is sent.As I checked the component specs, I started to see the wisdom of the choice. We are doing serious radio frequencies here to the motor coilsI have no idea if this is going to work, but I have a hunch a lot of thought has gone into this, and somebody is doing their homework on the bench.Doug, I think this will also work with your motors, shorting, and all, since you can drive it anywhere you want to, with free Arduino software.The Samsung is being run on 400 volts DC, though it is a 120 volt appliance motor.Can it really put out 18.5 hp without melting? On 700 watts?There is only one way to find out, isn't there, when logic, and education, pragmatically set you up for a different answer.I make a gamble of my time, in conjunction with my character assessment of the proponents, though I don't know them well, they make a straight forward description of their experience.Will I be able to replicate?Here goes. Hi Warren In Germany the very accomplished engineer there was using arduion to short coils, it seemed always messed up from something or other, and never seemed to be a short enough pulse too. It never got finished and working well...moslty my fault actually as I was always leaving lab early to help wife cope iwith this and that in germany.... Hall effects with trigger magnets on disc on shaft of motor or generator I think still best way to control mosfets either bidirectional and parallel for shorting, or just single mosfet for pulsing in or out the DC.
