Hi James, The molten core of our planet can make vortex like flow and thus make multi magnetic poles around the globe. Here is someone that experiments with simulating the core by using molten sodium: 'Spinning Sphere of Molten Sodium' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAYW9n8i-C4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAYW9n8i-C4 (8:26). Lots of charge is spinning which is a magnetic field. The tempic field (motion) operating on the electric charge creates a magnetic field. This is the vector product of speed and charge. Read all the references that I will post and keep in mind the key word INDUCTION. Studying the earth magnetic fields we run into the fact that there is a sea of circulating molten iron in the sub mantle of the earth which BTW is non magnetic above the curie temp of iron. We must consider the molten iron moving in circulating flows as a plasma which has a very powerful magnetic fields. The molten iron is highly conductive therefore the magnetic field is via induction an in any ordinary conductor carrying a current. We also have to consider the very real Telluric Currents in the earth mantle. You cannot pick up molten iron with a magnet. Its all in the atomic spin alignment within the molecular structure. As Ole said, a lot of spinning charges constitute a magnetic field. INDUCED magnetic field. See https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telluric_current https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curie_temperature In physics <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics> and materials science <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Materials_science>, the *Curie temperature* (/T/_C ), or *Curie point*, is the temperature above which certain materials lose their permanent magnetic <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet> properties, to be replaced by induced magnetism <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetization>. The Curie temperature is named after Pierre Curie <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Curie>, who showed that magnetism was lost at a critical temperature.^[1] <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curie_temperature#cite_note-1> ^A lot that we do not fully understand. Thanks guys I'm just saying its got scientists saying they haven't seen it like this before several air port have had to adjust there landing systems for the changes . I've tried to find a chart on the net that shows the atmospheric oxygen level from the 1800's to now but nothing zip so far .they show from 1996 to now and its like a 40 deg angle drop -/+ and from Billion's of years in the past but that's all . Hi James, "Molten metal ?doesn't that get past the curie point ?" Yes it does. But if there is an imbalance of positive and negative charge like if ionized this will make a current when mechanical moved. Moving charges have a magnetic field around them as if forming a shockwave by moving through some wave propagating media. this is seen as a magnetic field from a stationary observers point of view. The molten iron being above its Curie point vibrates too much to be a good conductor of magnetism when compared to the atoms being 'frozen' in place below the Curie point. This prevents the amplification of 10000 times of the magnetic field like when iron is used as magnetic conductor in a transformer core. Hi James, The first time I heard of mechanical motional charge making a magnetic field was that somebody used his lathe for making a plastic disc. He could drag sparks from that rotating disc when holding a metal comb near to it. This made his lathe permanent magnetic and he had to hire someone to demagnetize the lathe because afterwards when turning iron the rotary shavings clung to the lathe. The Curie temperature is named after Pierre Curie https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Curie, who showed that magnetism was lost at a critical temperature.[1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curie_temperature#cite_note-1 A lot that we do not fully understand.
