I got it to go much better with the brush and commutator...the rotor is now balanced. Input voltage 12v x 300ma = 3.6w input very good shaft torque and amp draw barely goes up grabbing shaft.to slow.

Awesome work Doug, looks really nice!  Can you use the electrolytic caps
successfully for back emf harvesting or are the impedance changes too
much, in other words if you had a choice money no object would you use
film oil instead or have you got it down pat using the lytics?  Maybe
this is your reason not to discharge the caps too far, in order to
prevent the low impedance at empty.

With a really large Muller motor can one run serious loads somewhat
direct with power factor correction caps, or is the highest and best use
to charge batteries?

Hi Mick
As for caps I do have lots of flash  camera caps back in Seattle I would parallel for collecting the bacmrmf/recoil spikes as Bedini recommended thes but I am sure they are not the best thing in world. Oil filled caps probably the best but they don't make them bigger than 150uf at least I haven't found them probably the danger from them exploding.
Yes ideas to not pulse out caps down to zero as then lots of resistance to refill ...i brought this subject up here awhile back I think Hector or Dave M recommended some sort of cap that has opposite resistance qualities as electroltctics...not sure now their type but I remember looking into it and they were only available in very small uf sizes like under  1uf...
Yes Muller design is very strong shaft torque especially when you start sandwiching drive coils between rotors...imagin power from 6 or 8 rotors...also making AC or alternating DC input allows you to bridge between a N and  S adjacent magnet with single col if size of coil extends from center of N magnet to center if S magnet now upon impulse to coil it reacys o both magnets at once and you get a push and a pull same time for twice the power the rotor also scoots lsideways with greater force too which direction of force you want in flat disc rotor Muller design.
What to do with the backemf recoil of even very powerful motor say in car or boat seems to be still to just charge lead acids on the side but also you could put it into cap pulse a motor coil for more shaft power too also I am looking into running that backemf recoil into generator coil collecting caps too actually to combine it with the induced generator coil winds power. You don't need only steering diode on drain of N chamnel mosfet to collect backemf/recoil as induced pickup winds behind or around or within the motor coil also pick it up...

DougI am pleased that you are getting substantial shaft torque.This really puts this design into a serious motor category.The prototype is fine with grinding wheels(you are amazing!)The final in a vehicle or marine powerplant could be built usingStainless steel plate, at a fairly doable price.A 1/2" or 3/8" plate is normally a bastard to cut, but if you can find someone with a waterjet setup in their garage, it cuts stainless plate like a dream to very high tolerances.Press in a keyed hub, and perhaps the magnet holding tubes, and you would have, once welded, a structure worthy of aviation, or at least a luxury yacht, suitable for a world rambling musician, or software geek.
Being a chief engineer on such a vessel is not the worst gig for a guitar player and his wife....just thinking.You want reliability assured.My Muller is a nice prototype, but it has design flaws, in that I'm not sure that my odd, even, arrangement of coils, and magnets was so smart when it comes to switching. It can be overcome, .....but.Plexiglas acrylic looks terrific, and Lexan is nearly as strong as aluminium, and super easy to fabricate with wood machinery, (as is aluminium)Composites of fibre glass and carbon fibre are light weight, and strong, but require some careful engineering to transfer  reliable torque to a shaft. Silicone rtv moldsand so on.... rambling thoughts.I think you should be able to use your present motor/ generator well, just as you are doing.My homemade caps simply proved to me that  making of high voltage caps is possible, although, not miniature they work fine for at least smaller values.I bet oil filled are not so tricky either.Making small sized ones is the only challenging part, and for some applications size doesn't matter.Keep up your good work. Kone,

You were lucky enough to study under the master Muller himself right?  I
just wondered what Mr Muller intended the design to do, was it to drive
a vehicle or turn a genset or act as it's own genset and run a home?

I bought some of the big ultracaps that were surplus out of the natural
gas hybrid busses.  I think they use a natural gas motor to turn a
genset to charge these babies as buffers between the gen and the motor. 
ANyhow the problem as you know with ultracaps is since they are based on
a foam of graphite called graphine, the insulating dielectric parts are
barely separating the plate part so easy to over-volt arc and cook, they
are rated about 3v.  So about 9 or 12 of these get one to 12 volts. 
They are also low impedance at the discharge state but once a bit of
charge they can charge much quicker and have some serious standby
current. But anyways with the conventional motor one is looking at about
745 farad per horsepower of storage requirement.  So as Hector always
says with the RV one should take the Rf and convert to non reflect-able
useful energy.  So first one may wish to make sure the disk motor is
tuned to transmit with coils that are standing wave 90 degree current
phase shifted.  Schottky diode plug to the proper sizes caps to non
refletively power correct the RF back to unity power factor for whatever
the load and go from there.  I tried a bunch of diodes for rectenna RF
collection and only Schottky diodes worked.  Based on antenna design and
information spectral density it would seem the RF side is where one
wants to get the multiplication factor then convert back to unity AC or
DC.  On the RF side tricks such as polarization and phase/ frequency
modulation and tweaking the sidebands to get the most gusto out of a can
of malt liquor.

Really bitchen work you are doing and Svet sounds really cute with her
sexy accent cheer leading your efforts.  I like the idea of old
fucktones instrumental with some Svetlana vox weirdnesses.

Intention of design was for both motors (best design on world especially with multiple stacked totors) and dynamos too ( he liked to call it that rather than a generator or alternator) or combination of both...
About a year before he died I saw photos of 9ft tall flat disc rotor stuffed with giant neodymium magnets that was intended for hydro electric dams as he was hydroelectric engineer when I met him but retired at 72 years old.
He had demonstrated overnight to universities in his motor generators late 80s before internet
When internet appeared, now he was attacked from all sides from people demanding proof, circuits, secrets, demonstration of looping home power unit and everything else they will demand .
Bill didn't fight in his defense on internet and just told them all they can to kiss my ass.
Sometime he was very grumpy and rude to visitors (ask.RonP about his visit) sometimes good mood and talks forever about magnets cores coils backemf etc like it was for me 4 times I visited...the design can go as far as you want take it to really and all sorts of mods and features and good ideas added to it.
