Thanks for the reply on the extra set of brushes. I have done that. I have had those brushes all over on that commutator. I have rewound 8 delco armatures. in different fashions. I can make that brush arc the size of a dime, but it will burn the brushes and commutator up in short order. So I went back to the stock armature with the brushes just off TDC on one side to make it spark pretty good. The readded the extra set of brushes to try pick up the back spike. It just wont pick it up in a capacitor either large or low UF. -----------I don't remember if I had tried a FWB across the brushes or not. This will be my next move to try accomplish. Otherwise I think the capacitor might be charged by the TRI coil. Thanks for the reply.

Tool definitions
SKILL SAW: A portable cutting tool used to make boards too short.

Channel Locks: Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters.
HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.
VISE-GRIPS: Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. BAND SAW: A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut large pieces into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge. Also excels at amputations.
TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST: A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of all the crap you forgot to disconnect.
PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads. (The Phillips screw was brought to market by Henry F. Phillips of Portland, Oregon and first used on the1936 Cadillac. Now you know who to blame for those stripped out heads. Yes, Phillips Lake near Baker, Oregon is also named for Henry Philllips.)
STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER: A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering your palms.
PRY BAR: A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.
PVC PIPE CUTTER: A tool used to make plastic pipe too short.
HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent to the object you are trying to hit. Also very effective at fingernail removal.
UTILITY KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door. Works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use. These can also be used to initiate a trip to the emergency room so a doctor can sew up the damage.
SON OF A BITCH TOOL: Any handy tool that you grab and throw across the garage while yelling 'Son of a bitch' at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.
DAMMIT CLIP: For us old timers, a clip used on carburetor linkage that was easy to remove but almost impossible to put back on. When it went flying to who knows where, the mechanic would say: "Dammit, where did that clip go". We learned a lot about baling wire from that experience. A two stroke outboard motor with magneto running at 3600 RPM has a commutation rate of 60 Hz same as the AC 60Hz line freq. When I was a repair technician for 7 years with Outboard Marine Corp, I got to see a magneto instrumented in a lab with scope leads to enable viewing the voltage and current traces during the magneto cycle. During the 1st step, N-S PMs passing poles 1 and 2 of an E frame armature there was induced a forward current and a positive voltage of up to 450V with a current trace clearly showing the knee of the BH curve indicating the saturation of the iron at peak positive induced voltage/current. As Kone pointed out, this is a short circuited primary winding cause one end of winding is frame grounded and the other end of winding is grounded via the closed breaker points. As you pointed out, current does not like to be stopped and electrons do have inertia so the condenser acts as a shock absorber to take the current surge at point opening and also prevent arcing in the breaker. the accumulated charge in the condenser at circuit opening is up to 450VDC positive. When the breaker points opened there was a straight down, negative going high magnitude negative spike off scope scale. Remember that when the breaker points open the PMs are now inducing a reverse polarity voltage and current into poles 2 and 3 of the E core. I guess that Outboard Marine was correct in using the E frame coil stator for it produced an excellent and powerful ignition source. Since then we have graduated to the Capacitive discharge type of ignition systems.

The current continues in the same direction while the voltage or tension changes sign. The current can't be stopped or having its direction changed in a jump as it is always continuous. It would be like immediately stopping or changing the direction of a running flywheel. The force required or given off is like the voltage when speaking coils. The voltage or force will be of infinite size if the change happens in an instant. The current starts decreasing from whatever value it has at the disruption. Only how fast is related to the size of the induced voltage (u = L x di/dt) where u is the voltage, L is the inductance of the coil, i is the current and t is time. di/dt is the slope of the current.
