NormanNow I know you are playing with us.As I sit in the corner of my basement, wearing my aluminium foil hat, hoping that neutrinos won't pass through me, it is hard to believe this loose collection of atoms is so transparent. It is like we are no more tangible, than a television image in space. Or a character in some computer game.The implications of the dynamic qualities of reality could make our hermit on the mountain's head hurt.I'll stick to trying to blend a perfect consistancy of Heritage mix mortar, to fill the voids between the rubblestone walls of my new studio /work shop. The original mix only lasted150+ years. I am hoping for better performance, in spite of those pesky neutrinos.Should the new doors be pine, oak, or hickory? There is also quite a surplus of perfectly sound, I believe, tamarack, poles, about ten inches in diameter. They are so hard, and dense, that even a new chainsaw blade smokes with the effort of cutting. The carbide sawsall blades are the only way, so far. They also may be contenders for new doors.They came out of the old milking dairy part of the big barn.This whole moving task has been a crazy amount of work this last year.I can't wait to get back to building energy devices.My friend Mike is hooking up his household solar bank to the electric hot water tank directly to do a test, at my pestering with a concept.Forget batteries, just heat Read this then we can discuss the use of fine wire/ high voltages/
moderate current. We will have to get Ole involved here for now we are
talking about watts driving coil vs shear current over large wire sizes.

Main article: Explosively pumped flux compression generator
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explosively_pumped_flux_compression_generator>
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flux_compression_generator_1.png>
A hollow tube type of explosively pumped flux compression generator.
The factor limiting the strength of electromagnets is the inability to
dissipate the enormous waste heat, so more powerful fields, up to 100
T,^[23]
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet#cite_note-MagnetLab-23>
have been obtained from resistive magnets by sending brief pulses of
high current through them; the inactive period after each pulse allows
the heat produced during the pulse to be removed, before the next pulse.
The most powerful manmade magnetic fields^[26]
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet#cite_note--26> have been
created by using explosives to compress the magnetic field inside an
electromagnet as it is pulsed; these are called explosively pumped flux
compression generators
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explosively_pumped_flux_compression_generator>.
The implosion
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implosion_%28mechanical_process%29>
compresses the magnetic field to values of around 1000 T^[24]
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet#cite_note-MagnetLabU-24>
for a few microseconds. While this method may seem very destructive, it
is possible to redirect the brunt of the blast radially outwards so that
neither the experiment nor the magnetic structure are harmed. These
devices are known as destructive pulsed electromagnets.^[27]
<https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet#cite_note-MagnetLab-pulsed-27>
They are used in physics <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics> and
materials science <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Materials_science>
research to study the properties of materials at high magnetic fields.

Hi Mick, Norman, The magnetic field is given by the current which is the total current going around the core or area where the magnetic field is made. Say a magnetic field in an air core (i.e. no saturation possible as air is a linear medium) is made by having 100A goring around the core. This can be done by having a thick wire of one turn capable of conducting 100A or a thin wire of 100 turns capable of conducting 1A. Both examples give the same magnetic field strength. If the wires aren't superconductors they have resistance. The more resistance the higher tension (voltage) is needed to push (or pull) the current through the wire. If both wires are allowed to dissipate the same amount of heat the 100 turns wire is only about 1/100th the cross sectional area of the thick wire of one turn. Thus the thin wire has about 100 times greater resistance per turn and thus requires one hundred times greater voltage to give the 1A current in the 100 turns of wire. I.e. the resistance is 100 x 100 = 10000 times greater than the one turn wire. The above example only holds for steady state DC as the inductance of the two coils differs by the turns ratio squared (100^2 = 10000). Thus the 100 turns coil has 10000 times greater inductance than the coil of a single turn. This gives high inductive reactance (high impedance) to HF AC signals or during the transient period of switching on or off a DC signal. The magnetic energy stored is the same for the two coils. The inductive kickback gives different voltages when disrupting the currents into a load. If the load resistance (R) is 1 Ohm the induced voltage (V) of the one turn coil 'discharging' 100A into that load is 100V peak (V = I x R) while the 100 turns coil of 1A will induce only 1A x 1ohm = 1V. To dissipate the same stored energy the coil of 100 turns thus will be much slower to 'empty' its magnetic field than the one turn coil. Putting a load of greater resistance dissipates the stored energy faster as the current must decline from the 1A is has (or whatever value) when starting to remove the magnetic field energy. This is why an electromagnetic relay opens faster with a resistive snubber than when using a simple diode snubber and just the resistance of the coil itself. https://wiki2.org/en/Maxwell's_equations#Amp%C3%A8re's_law_with_Maxwell's_addition https://wiki2.org/en/Maxwell%27s_equations#Amp%C3%A8re's_law_with_Maxwell's_addition https://wiki2.org/en/Amp%C3%A8re's_circuital_law https://wiki2.org/en/Amp%C3%A8re%27s_circuital_law Regards Ole ---In [email protected], <nwootan@...> wrote : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnet Read this then we can discuss the use of fine wire/ high voltages/ moderate current. For James not Mick. Sorry. ---In [email protected], <onielsen@...> wrote : Hi Mick, Norman, The magnetic field is given by the current which is the total current going around the core or area where the magnetic field is made. OleThank you for your excellent input. I found it very understandable, and helpful, concerning a topic that has caused me a lot of trouble building working devices.My ultra fine wire coil trying an Ismael launch was a dud when I tried it a few years ago. Now reading your simple explanation, I now know why it behaved just as it did. Too many turns of too fine of wire just couldn't deliver the type of power we were looking for. It was just that simple.Cheers Warren Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Sun, 23 Sep 2018 at 7:22 PM, [email protected] [EVGRAY]<[email protected]> wrote: Hi Mick, Norman, The magnetic field is given by the current which is the total current going around the core or area where the magnetic field is made. Now applying this vital information to the reverse engineering of Don Smith's coils starts to make a little more sense. I mastered physically winding a heavy duty coil made from copper tubing, just like in his pictures. My ignorance of the rules laid out as you have, has made a rather easy build far more complicated and less likely to work. What you have just mentioned would possibly also apply the the Tesla pancake coils, and induction stove top. I keep getting the sense of being close but missing the mark due to ignorance of some very basic physics being overlooked. It is essential to have a very sound sense of the relationship of the coils to the magnetic fields, and the speed of change in those magnetic fields. Impedance is a hard concept to grasp without keeping the basics in mind. Thank you some more, I shall keep trying to apply this information to our devices. [EVGRAY] <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Mick, Norman, The magnetic field is given by the current which is the total current going around the core or area where the magnetic field is made. OleAgain, thank you for your patient review of this physics of magnetic coils.Now applying this vital information to the reverse engineering of Don Smith's coils starts to make a little more sense.I mastered physically winding a heavy duty coil made from copper tubing, just like in his pictures.My ignorance of the rules laid out as you have, has made a rather easy build far more complicated and less likely to work.What you have just mentioned would possibly also apply the the Tesla pancake coils, and induction stove top.I keep getting the sense of being close but missing the mark due to ignorance of some very basic physics being overlooked.It is essential to have a very sound sense of the relationship of the coils to the magnetic fields, and the speed of change in those magnetic fields. Impedance is a hard concept to grasp without keeping the basics in mind.Thank you some more, I shall keep trying to apply this information to our devices.Cheers Warren Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Sun, 23 Sep 2018 at 8:24 PM, Warren Keillor [email protected] [EVGRAY]<[email protected]> wrote: Ole Thank you for your excellent input.
