Norm, Would this be a good coil to use for the magnet snuffer on the center pole, or only as the replacement for the battery if building the Tesla receiver? Sven, this 3 pole coil design was used for many years by Outboard Marine Corp 40s up to the 70s in the two cylinder magnetos. I had a magneto test bench where I could experiment with the careful timing adjustments of the breaker points (before breakerless solid state commutation). by careful adjustment of breaker gap/timing you could get magneto operating at peak of resonant curve in the "Ultra high Q" region! At idle, (300 RPM) a very well tuned magneto of this design would yield a good one inch bright blue arc. The condenser for this type of coil was .026mfd which was a "perfect match" to the impedance of the iron core coil. I had various values of condensers (capacitors) but only the proper value would yield maximum performance! Norm, How does the Tesla battery work in the receiver with the stressed dielectric? For a perfect LC tank the cap and inductor would have the same value. The values are likely determined at DC but not sure. Based on the engine being a low frequency device one could assume the equal values. Norm, the coil poles faced the inside surface of the flywheel?flywheel NSN or SNS magnet order as the pass by coil?
Looks that coil faces a concave shaped magnets.
The flux path is near same in a E-core transformer.

Outboard Marine used a two magnets (N-S) imbeded in flywheel with a "E" iron coil frame which gave the flux reversal "Push- pull" current in primary! Makes no difference as to which pole leads, evidenced by the 6 cylinder Mercury outboards which were direct drive with no reverse gear! It had a "double bendix" starter which when you pulled throttle into "Beta" (reverse) and hit start button, engine would start in reverse rotation. Magneto was retarded into "After dead center" to fire in reverse rotation. "simple"! Engine reverse on old red or white Mercs, never new that but I always liked them over outboard marine.

The flux path is near same in a E-core transformer.
