SteveThe heat pump in the studio shop case is 220 volt single phase, an off the shelf unit, that he gets wholesale from one of his suppliers. He can totally build from scratch, but being as lazy as the rest of us, if something is available cheaper than you can build it , you buy it.Mind you it may not stay that way.I notice that he has a nice old victorian cast iron rad right next to it that is awaiting further events. Radiant heat is always better than hot air trying to do the job. Nothing beats radiant mass as a capacitor for thermal storage in heating dwellings. The tubing in the floor,(and floor) is better than a rad, but a rad is better than air passing by.This all makes for a very practical application using a 1.6 kw stator coil re jigged for free energy.Hey! Why use Chromalux elements inside a hot water tank? There is no free lunch there. Heat pump! Heat pumps hooked to the roof panel. Our off the shelf known methods of saving energy are not even being used, let alone our voo doo power potencial lurking in this group. If you are whining about being short of funds boys, get your tickets and get to work. Starting now, you could be working to the end of you days installing systems, and not even make a modest dent in the need to change heating methods across the continent. The same goes for air conditioning.Europe is way smarter about these matters and are way ahead of North America, in spite of those holdouts in the UK, with their "electric fires" and coin operated hot water gas powered
fossils, in their homes.( the Brits are funny about history, and all that. Charming, but eccentric)Cheers Earren

Keep us in mind when you find out about his heat pump that is in your old shop, if I remember correctly you said it was running on 120 volt I for one would like to know if it is a store bought Model or did he make this unit himself.

DougWe just scrapped such a furnace that was heating my studio in Toronto. It was perfectly OK, and ran on natural gas, with a nice stainless steel heat exchanger.Yes, scrapped, me?The gas company charges a flat rate delivery charge of $50. Per month, whether you use any, or not just to keep those pipes safely in the ground.Any gas you use is on top of that fee. This is twelve months per year!So you are a frigging insullation freak and go R30. Baby, you are still paying that delivery charge.
My friend Mike, installed an electric heat pump, in a solid endorsement of my purhaps delusional be lief that we can make electricity, some day.The gas service has been cut off along with the compulsory service charges saving $600/ year plus the gas burnt. What a winter to test a heat pump!It has been -27C even there, in Toronto. It is toasty warm, quiet, and is costingway less then the warm winter we had last year.It is just an air to air heat pump. The way to go is a liquid heat exchanged in the floor system, based on geo thermal and solar thermal combined, the pumps run by our voodoo electricityMike is super experienced, buil ding these systems for high end clients, who enjoy the luxury of heated floors, and radiant dust free, silent heat, free of drafts. Oh, and costing nearly nothing to the energy companies for heat.I hear the stone barn calling for it, and my Caterpiller idling ready to go for it.Cheers Warren

Hi Hector,
That's a good idea....about the DC rotor.

I think it has to be circular magnetic path for patent idea to work.

As the field in the centre doesn't reverse like it does in a 3 phase power
transformer.
Centre field rotates either clockwise or anti clock at input frequency &
normally the rotor just follows this field.

I already tried 40 metres wire wound through the centre on a big outrunner
motor.

Ran it off a VFD ...VFD gave over 300V ac per phase causing heating of
individual drive coils
but my 40 metre series wind gave me just 6V ac :-(
Rotor turned nicely though.

Going to pull the wire off and try re wrapping around stator poles.

Gerry
