GeorgeOh the Earth is spinning all right, and the situation is normal for the beginning of December in Canada, with early darkening days, and lots of grey skies.My days are spent packing boxes with the contents of my life, both past, present and perhaps some future, as I move from the city, to the country.I have not been able to do any experiments, as my machines, and tools are packed, leaving only a slight ability to weld, or perhaps use a lathe, or milling machine.
All the electrical stuff is gone now, leaving only motors, and generators to be boxed. The 4 foot diameter Bedini is going to be packed on the truck by the movers, as it is awkward, though not too delicate. They have been terrific, and almost too careful.Hopefully, this job will be all loaded on trucks, and trailers, by mid December.We don't move to the new place until December 19th, leaving any holidays to work unpacking.Trust me, this is a very dull job, and no great fun. Friends have been helping, but only I know what most of the stuff is, separating science fiction from reality, and antiques from junk.Ancient film equipment that exposed celuloid covered with gelitine and silver nitrate to light, with time consuming development and expensive machinery is simply history, rather than now, a means to make a living. Truck loads of lights that are obsolete, camera dollies, that ran heavy cameras smoothly, while filming flying saucers, around Robert Vaughn, or Christopher Lee. Giant turntables that twirled a ten foot earth in space, with a large Space Shuttle in the foreground not likely ever to be used in the same way again, much like a wooden kitchen match once lit.The camera track looks like it will make a terrific saw mill for making new barn beams for some of the barns, squaring fifty foot logs if needed, much smoother than the commercial rig I just saw being used.Questions roll through my head.Should I heat, and insulate, giant barns used for 19th century farming?Can they ever be used for different purposes, closer to contemporary needs?There is a bush of sugar maples, a grove of apple trees, and more than enough room for raising honey bees safe from pesticides, plus a row or two of grape vines.The main buildings are 18" thick lime stone, about 170 years old, with a smaller building in ruins without a roof, where it might make a nice forge, foundry, and welding shop, well away from other buildings.Nobody will give a rat's ass if I am off the grid, or not. The sun here is free, even without any stinking government grants. These Winter Solstice days are as cheap with the energy that Mother Nature gets around this part of Ontario.Even so, I have noticed the panels on my schooner, sitting up out of the water for the winter, show the batteries at 13.9 volts, even while shaded by nearby evergreen trees.I think about Zilano, running her farm in Slovenia, on 160 kilowatts produced from a briefcase sized device....I wonder if, I too, might be able to do that?Why, finally, I can fire up my 5 million volt Tesla coil, without destroying my neighbour's electronics, ( or mine, for that matter)All these ambitions await, after unpacking, and the cold clear light of day sets into me, after a night of battling coyotes, shotgun in hand....or whatever the local chaos seems to be.So far, all the people I have met are just super nice, in the area of the new place.Cheers Warren
