Hi Mick,

There is a Mathcad community where work sheets can be shared: https://community.ptc.com/t5/PTC-Mathcad/bd-p/PTCMathcad https://community.ptc.com/t5/PTC-Mathcad/bd-p/PTCMathcad. There are also libraries with worksheets for different engineering disciplines. But it is easy to build your own calculation sheets. What I find very good in Mathcad is that the units are calculated automatic. If the units don't match there is something wrong in the formula. This adds some extra error catch. Mathcad can also calculate with imperial units besides the SI units and it's even possible to create customized units.

I think Mathcad has become too expensive. For the annual license fee you can buy lots of physical calculators. Of course they're not as flexible as a Mathcad worksheet with its good overview. I still use the old Mathcad 15.0. It is locked to the computer but works without paying the annual fee of the modern versions. PTC that now owns Mathcad are quite expensive except if you make your living by using the software. Mathcad is very time saving when doing calculations and everything is documented if saving the worksheets.

Regards
Ole

 Hi Ole,

Thank you, I was considering trying Mathcad or Cadabra or Axiom but now that you recommend it for sure!
I seem to recall the Mathematica I used to use of a friend a long time back who was a math professor required about a 500 dollar add on for impedance and reactance network modeling, does Mathcad require additional packages also?

   Hi Mick,

I use Mathcad as calculator. It has become too expensive and missing the animation ability so looking for an alternative. SMath Studio looks like Mathcad and is free (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMath_Studio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMath_Studio). I like the animation function to simulate transmission line reflections and standing waves etc. It can also animate wave patterns like the force fields of the Rhythmodynamics theory. I actually haven't done those simulations much since discovering the Rhythmodynamics theory.

The formulas are written like done on paper. The program then calculates the formula and puts the result after the equal to sign.

 Ole

 Hi Ole,

I was looking around for my calculator for deriving pulse shaping
networks and filters to use for loudspeakers and seem to have misplaced
 it in digital oblivion.

I am pretty sure you posted a circuit for same sometime back wherefore
placing an inductive load close to the amp so was wondering if you can
 recommend a calculator.
A further complexity arises when adding a Zobel to the shaping inductor
as the impedance becomes much more complex due to additional peaking and
added IM distortion but that's another story and as we all know
electronic design is always a compromise.

 Thanks,

 Mick
