Well, Dave, it's easy enough if you use a universal motor to power the
stator coils separately to the rotor.
You can get a universal motor from basically any appliance that plugs into
the wall with a decent motor power.

Vacuum cleaners, or kitchen appliances are good bets.

It just takes a little looking at the wiring scheme to separate the two
likely without even cutting any wires.
