JamesThe three phase motors with a ring of permanent magnets around the outside that Hector might call out runners are the kind that are being used.Now, I have not, in person, seen the magic on my bench, as I have not completed the driver circuit board yet.I have been talking with a number of those who have them working, some for as much as two years now. Three of them are in America, which as you know, is a country where truth is up for grabs these days.However, the useful wealth of detail regarding their work leads me to believe them, as I encounter , and overcome, similar challenges, they describe.One unit that was being monitored, ended up being sold, in a recreational vehicle that it had been installed in. It was producing 1500 watts for air conditioning and heat for two years, while parked in a friend's driveway. The friend had to sell the house so this fellow had to sell the bus, with this generator he made.A retired guy in his 80's bought the bus and was driving it out of the country, to South America. Our builder lost contact with his work, and is now building another, "even better" unit.Nobody doing this is"main stream" or rich, by any means except in Europe where an well employedengineer is building one as an ethical hobby. There are others, but I only have second hand contact with them, so far.We are considering updating my 2001 Subaru Forester for an electric Hyundai with a 400+ km rangeIf this unit I am building works, and that is a big IF, the device will easily sit in the trunk with claims that even 10 to 20 KW may be possible. Mine is only a 2.6 KW test unit, and it is said that it will likely consume 7 to 800 watts.I don't understand the physics, though everyone I have talked to, has a theory of why their machines work. No two of them agree on anything except these Samsung motors are crazy powerful. One even says it is the diameter, giving the torque.There you have it, for now.Cheers Warren

Sadly, the plate if any, was on the gas engine. I only know it was a Fairbanks Morse which was very heavily built, using their own engine, which for any company, is unusual.
It seemed to be for continuous duty, but there is no indication when it was made, or what model.It could have even been war time WW11 vintage except for the paint..Cheers Warren

A generator for DC, rather than an alternator producing AC and rectified to DC, just spits out DC. The DC slip ring is usually segmented to flip the fields.

Bart, do you remember that 4 cylinder gas generator I gave you? This is likely about a similar vintage, only, this is just a couple of KW, I'm hoping will do the job. If anybody can remember pre-diode times I would sure be grateful. How would the voltage regulation work? Cheers Warren
