MickIt is an Ac generator(alternator?) 60 hz Ac? It is 1800 rpm, I'm wondering if the DC windings are used to power the fields, crazy as that seems. If needed, I guess I might have to take it apart to find out how it works, which I didn't do 20 years ago when fitting the bearing AC and end plate,) for connection to a three hp Chinese diesel in my schooner's engine room.I am still on the kick to hook Samsung washing machine motors to generators, and run them on 400 volt pulsed dc.I have a 3600 rpm 2.6 Kw made up
But still awaiting the finalization of the circuit diagram to make the interface board for the Arduino. The idea is to hit it with RF high voltage pulses, sequenced as three phase. People are reporting success, but you have to try these things yourself, as it appears too good to be true.I had all these things, except I had lost the 1800 rpm genny at the bottom of a box of 2000 business records, the movers packed.Like, I was so not interested in those books, who knew a generator was out in one of the the sheds all this timeCheers Warren

Warren,
A generator for DC, rather than an alternator producing AC and rectified to DC, just spits out DC. The DC slip ring is usually segmented to flip the fields.

Hi Everyone I have this 120 volt 60hz single phase generator, four pole 1800 rpm , a Fairbanks Morse, possibly from the 1950's. It is very massively built, and in decent condition. I need such a thing for an experiment I am doing. However, it is a challenge to know how to hook it up. I can't find a wiring diagram on line. It is peculiar. It may predate diodes How did they energize the field windings? It has a complete commutator, and brushes, as well as slip rings, and brushes, It was direct coupled to a gas engine. I have installed a stub shaft, and a bearing to support the engine end, as the that bearing support was the engine bearing. It seems pretty good for my purposes if I only can figure out how to make it go. An interesting feature about it is that it has an electric starter function to turn the generator into a motor for starting the gas engine it used to be connected to.
Bart, do you remember that 4 cylinder gas generator I gave you? This is likely about a similar vintage, only, this is just a couple of KW, I'm hoping will do the job. If anybody can remember pre-diode times I would sure be grateful. How would the voltage regulation work? Cheers Warren
