Hi EveryoneI have this 120 volt 60hz single phase generator, four pole 1800 rpm , a Fairbanks Morse, possibly from the 1950's. It is very massively built, and in decent condition.I need such a thing for an experiment I am doing.However, it is a challenge to know how to hook it up. I can't find a wiring diagram on line.It is peculiar. It may predate diodesHow did they energize the field windings?It has a complete commutator, and brushes, as well as slip rings, and brushes,It was direct coupled to a gas engine. I have installed a stub shaft, and a bearing to support the engine end, as the that bearing support was the engine bearing.It seems pretty good for my purposes if I only can figure out how to make it go.An interesting feature about it is that it has an electric starter function to turn the generator into a motor for starting the gas engine it used to be connected to.
Bart, do you remember that 4 cylinder gas generator I gave you?This is likely about a similar vintage, only, this is just a couple of KW, I'm hoping will do the job.If anybody can remember pre-diode times I would sure be grateful.How would the voltage regulation work?Cheers Warren
