The most important aspects of the Tesla Turbine Project is the
fundamental principles of operation in that it is a Boundary Layer
driven concept. Tesla was correct in stating that the runners, (disk)
had to have a micro polished surface to create the greatest adhesion of
the boundary layer air or media. It is the interaction of the
trans-sonic fluid flow via shock wave attachment to the moving disk that
imparts the maximum of kinetic energy which was derived from the De
Laval Nozzle conversion, Pressure and Temperature. Grasp the concept.
It works in rocketry to create thrust. My improved hub design eliminated
the need for Labyrinth seals buy going to the exhaust through a hollow
hub design that improved the performance by a great margin. The
limiting factor in the 1920s days was in metallurgy in that there was a
lack of proper metals that could handle the radial shes loading of the
high speed disk packs. We solved this by going to
carbon/carbon-composite disk built in vapor deposit diffusion furnaces.
We could create disk that are 10X stronger than any steel and are
exceptional light weight and almost indestructible with micro finish
surfaces as Tesla specified. A shame, that all of this effort will be
lost due to a totally lack of interest. So be it!. An added note in
that it is absolutely necessary for efficient operation for the driving
fluid be a phase change condensible media so as to provide the
differential in pressures between the input side and the exhaust to
create the implosion centripetal vortex principle mandatory for
operation. The lower the pressure at the exhaust the greater the
implosion vortex phenomenon. GET IT!
