Warren,
If one desired to replicate the whorl of a vortex in a sink draining can
you think of a way one could freeze the water of some other liquid fast
enough to be able to bandsaw through the ice to make an accurate mold?
Maybe a regular freeze job would work, easy to try up where you are with
one of those 5 or 10 gallon horse water buckets.
It would be super cool to have an exact vortex dimension!
I can only hope the mom and pops are left that can create amazing things
but every time I go to find one of these it's often a retired machinist
in his 70's or older. We do as you say now have 3d printers so this
opens up all sort of new potentials. I just wish I could get a small
shop size Arcam for under a grand, then it would be party time. I can't
find anything affordable that 3d prints metal at high tolerance without
polymer binders and kiln process in which finished work which looks like
wax on a sunny day. So far the EDM powder 3d process looks like the
best one running. Not sure why no one has miniaturized to lets say a
10 grand unit. Just the work off plastic molds it could pay for itself
the first job.
You found someone who made custom size tires and vulcanized their own
rubber, that's quite the find!
