 Just thinking, if rotor was two magnets, one facing N, other S, and then 3 coils as stators the rotor spins past, now you would get a nice AC signal with every rotation 3 positive peaks and 3 negative peaks....at around 2750 rpm you should be making some good 60hz AC which you could use to run a rotovertor motor and you could spin DC motor with rectified output from rotovertor run cap phase with series transformer like you did with the DC boat motor as load......now belt and pulley the DC motor up to spin the "hippy motor" (now only altenator it is working as) at that 2750rpm exact...
 Dave told me they had to start it out slow with variac, and slowly increase speed until you get it latched up or something so this makes me think the hippy motor was really a hippy alternator more or less sort of design that had zero lenz law as the rotor magnets spun past the coils in this 2 NS magnet rotor and 3 stator coils design....so this would take total of 6 clamshells, with all the splatter-type pickup coils mounted to match the flux-dot pattern....Dave told me the clamshells were not a required sort of material,and you could use anything  non ferrous of that shape, but the clamshells had that right shape to them, and they had some available.....Some girls in the commune were hired to do the clamshell and coil winding and gluing into the clamshells - the delicate work.... so this also make me think of hippy commune on California coast  perhaps the girls knew nothing of the Russian rifles too...
