Ole,  Your comments are so true regarding the source of advancements in 
the magical world of magnetic flux annihilation/Reconnect.  The big buck 
Black Budget Government programs have advanced all the knowledge learned 
by studying your favorite researchers down through the years.   That is 
exactly how they got there.  We now know that Weapons Research Programs 
have unlocked the secret as  to how to tap the Zero-Point, Space 
background, aether, if you like to provide a phenomenal amount of real 
power.     If you have the ability to destroy a powerful magnet flux 
field in a nano sec via 23GPa over pressure from an explosive and yield 
voltage and current potentials in KV and KA then think about how to 
apply this knowledge to tap other magnetic flux fields like Don Smith 
wanting to tap the anomalous earth magnetic fields.  He was not far off 
in his thinking.
