MickI made a large rotor out of 3/8" acrylic. It was terrific to machine ,of course, no magnetic intrference, but unlike Doug's grinding wheels, has some flex, and deviates.Acrylic needs a layer of glass cloth front, and back, with epoxy resin, to make it stiffer, which is what the grinding wheels do.Doug has some amazing method of bravely making holes in grinding discs, using a cold chisel, for mounting magnets in holes around the face of the discs, with epoxy.Those suckers are rigid, and non magnetic or eddy current sensitive.
316/or 304 stainless, is completely eddy current transparent, but a mean bastard to machine, without proper machine shop equipment, or water jet. Otherwise, it would work in the dream machine.I can live with the acrylic by balancing between coils on either side to prevent waver wobbles, and vibration at high speeds.Plywood might be better, like baltic birch, or something.Cheers Warren

I imagine something really expensive and hard to machine like austenitic
stainless or titanium would be best if using metal, or composite high
temp carbon fiber with silicon nitride bearings but wanted to check if
aluminum's paramagnetic property degrades performance.
I have seen some rotors of aluminum but seem to recall your opinion it
was not optimal.
