It seems that we are entering the realm of electric car motors, that try to optimize every part of the rotation. Has anybody been visiting some of the electric hot rodder's forums? My friend Mike, who is putting a Nissan Leaf drive train in his 1.5 ton Volkswagon truck is heavy into this type of motor conversation.Cheers Warren

Kone,
Its a BLDC motor. The outside is the rotor like a hub motor so the centrifugal force holds them in place along with his super magnet glue, rotates the magnets not a shield. There are two main types of pulse systems for BLDC I forget the names but has to do with waveshape. Easy to see which his is by the scope brainfade on the name right now.
He has no heat problems as the reverse windings suck it off on the flyback pulse during rest cycle of the pulsetrain.
He is using both back EMF and the flyback pulse in different modalities. Steering diodes to collect Lenz back emf and reverse windings every other slot per phase: Phase one forward wound, skip two reverse wound skip two forward wound, same for each phase. 33035 and 33039 chips run it

Hi Jakob and Mick and all
Very good video of Ron Brandt.
I learned alot; he uses hall effects and transistors to pulse. Very strong neodymium magnets 100lb pull,
Iron core material, no brushes so windings stationary while magnets rotate but is possible magnets also stationary with some sort of magnetic interruptor/sheild rotates between magnets and coils similar to Eklin which he mentions he built some of.
Studyng that cross section drawing more will tell what it is that rotates ...i would imagine heat problems and much drag to rotation if he is rotating magnets of that strength past iron cores especially if it gets to to high rpms above 3000...so maybe it is a rotating interruptoe plate/ring of some kind working like an Eklin machine.
It is 3ph and looks like DC from scope, showing just one of the three phases. I don't think AC like rotovertor with run cap/rotary transformer phase
but could be...has backemf/recoil flyback recovery (Sorry Norm he calls it back emf) and interesting it goes 1000rpm faster with it disconnected so sounds like he has not got that quite right yet however he says he does save it into caps and uses it onr next pulse ...his draw of 2100 watts pretty heavy maybe this is while loaded on dynometr which isn't too bad.
