MickI have made a base support for it so that it can be driven with a vee belt, which I did, and yes, it has ac between the three output/ input wires, as it is almost a Kone type of muller, only, with the wires coming through the axle, and the magnets travelling around the coils.Like you, I am using it as a learning tool.Cheers Warren

Warren,
Just buy a controller for it, it may have the hall sensors mounted already and try tuning it and use some steering diodes collect the back EMF. Sounds like a pretty easy thing to get started with and learn alot. Otherwise just use it as a Bedini type battery charger by separting the flyback pulse or as a DC generator with a 3 phase rectifier.
If you don't want it I will take it.

Warren,
They make a few diff models but in reference to the BLDC there are all sort of things one can try and Doug is master of many, however this discussion had to do with building a Brandt motor, which to perform properly requires a BLDC controller with variable frequency and duty cycle and rewinding the motor which is not a small undertaking.
The Brandt design uses the hall sensor placement and an opposite wind every other slot of the same phase. The timing on the controller is set so the opposite windings are in the off position making use of the collapse, so it is an assymetric motor.
Best to start with an after market controller one that uses the hall sensors to tell which phase should firing when. If I were you and could find a controller like this I would run a generator load off it lighting some steady load and tune the thing for the least load spinning it. I would then use steering diodes off all three phases to charge the battery running the experiment and for every improvement in tuning write down results or use a memory scope or recording voltmeter to graph it.
Mounting the hall sensors in a lexan circle one could rotate after figuring out the proper spacing for them would also be critical for tuning.
This I would try first before attempting the full Brandt motor with the rewind because that requires some pretty solid knowledge and experience. Remember, Ronald Brandt began winding motors as a child by the time he made that video he had some real chops.

My ears perked up when you mentioned Golden motors. How does one best exploit them? I don't happen to have a controller for my dumpster found unit. Otherwise, it is in good running shape, I think. Cheers Warren

Jakob,
The number of slots is confusing as they messed up his motor but basically the gist is for every other winding of the same phase the windings are reversed in order to use the flyback pulse as an additive vector. The controller is PWM at 25kHz if I recall correctly. ON MC33035
I have the controller build out PDF but it is over 20 meg
Then there is another circuit on each phase with steering diodes to collect back emf and feed it back to the battery.
it would not be difficult to rewind a BLDC Chinese hub motor and run it from the controller Golden motors is a good source.
His original system used deep cycle lead acid the Brandt Tesla switch and could run for a couple hundred miles between charges or before the batteries got too hot, not sure of the issues but I assume he wanted a powerpack based on negative energy so it would not run down. His earlier motors were pulsed type with caps similar to EV gray as I understand it but he stalled the design after the relativistic effects of the field locking the lady in her trailer. Unfortunately there is not much info left about Ronald Brandt and the person who bought his estate likely sold out to the highest bidder whatever was left. Sad that these WITT assholes got their hooks in but one good thing may have happened. As soon as the purchaser of the estate went public Buster from Wittless open sourced Brandt's motor work, so likely a jealousy thing or a tactic to force the prices down on the asking price for remaining motors. Either or allowed us to see what normally would be stashed away. I am sure the wiitless creeps made all sorts of money promises with just enough juice to keep the wheels rolling forwards as con men are apt to do.
I have never spoken to Buster but did have the displeasure of speaking to Tim Thrapp once, had a very alcohol pickled vibe, definite con man with jail background.

Yes Mick, i could not agree more,he obviously was putting his whole energie to do the right .
Believe it or not it was the first time for me to hear how much OXYGEN is used up in a fossil fuel
motor. I was allways interested zo use less fuel, obviously, but to get this straight piece of truth so
hard was a shoke. Sadly i still could not build his motor becouse i dont have the facts about the
nr of windings, or diameter of wire ,or current restricting circuit or the speed control at all exept it was
pulsed. I also dont get the relation from 49 windings slots to 16 magnet rows.Where has the
unused one to be in three phase? I need to lern more (a lot).

Jakob,
Ron Brandt was a brilliant man. The creeps at Witts
somehow
befriended him. HEre is an interesting post scroll

Hi Jakob
I believe that is the motor of Ron Brandt that
Dennis Lee
usually used to spin the hummingbird
generator.
Look up his name and do some searching about
it...he
passed
away while ago far as I know.
One Dennis Lee video has RB.show up late to
the show, out
of
breath after driving across country he did not
look very
healthy.
The key really is no Lenz generator ...if
permanent magnet
rotor in generator look for sweet spot in rpms
where rotor
speeds up under generator coil loading and
Lenz law does
brake and slow down rotor.
Very generally 16 magnet rotor will have sweet
spot window
of 2100 to 2300 rpm, this based on video Woopy
put out a
few
years ago of simple experiment.
Look up youtube videos under "Thane Karl
