GuysI am still wondering why the Rotoverter keeps on going, rain or shine, any time, doing 1.614 over unity.It works! But it has bearings, is very heavy, and bulky, makes noise, and requires that you switch the 130mf capacitor into circuit until it gets up to speed, every time the power is shut off to the motor.As configured, it will even run a second identical Rotoverter from the first one. Wahoo!That is all interesting, but given Ole's pragmatic information, why do rotoverters work? They are not without problems, but are stable, and consistent.We should be able to engineer, or plan to combine those advantages, and minimize the disadvantages, but it is difficult, because we don't understand the voodoo that makes them go.Cheers Warren

Agree when using practical coils. Ideal coils don't dissipate energy. This is actually used for testing for superconductivity. Inducing a current in a superconductor makes the current continue and thus makes the superconductor perform like a permanent magnet. If there is the least resistance the energy will be transformed into heat and thus dissipated. This makes a voltage gradient along the resistance and then disproves the sample as being superconductive.

Apropos when trimming tolerances. Here is an article about the art of soldering micro electronics where the author mentions that trimming can be performed by adding or removing a bit of solder: 'Fortunately,in soldering (as in RF layout and pretty much every practice dealing withelectromagnetic signal flow), beautiful work always wins. Coils and capacitors are diametrically opposites of eachother. What current is for a coil voltage is for a capacitor and viceversa.

This can be shown when making a circuit of just one capacitor andone coil (inductor). Applying energy to such a circuit (LC-tank) willmake it oscillate continually if the energy isn't dissipated whichrequires some resistance. The energy is oscillating between fullymagnetic (current or amps) and fully electric (tension or voltage). Thusfor a coil the tension doesn't represent energy stored but only howfast the energy is moved which is the power. Real coils and capacitors haveresistance because they are made of metals having resistance (usuallycopper and aluminum or tantalum).
Coils do have permanent resistance , capacitors don't only temporary as they charge up and its Z (impedance )
The resistive part is called theparasitic part when dealing with both capacitors and inductors.Inductors also have a capacitive part (between the turns as well as tothe ambient) which is also a parasitic part when dealing with inductors.Capacitors also have an inductive parasitic part because when currententers them a magnetic field is created around the current path which isinductive. Even resistors have parasitic parts of inductance andcapacitance because of the same reasons. Thus all the three fundamentalcomponents of electronics (i.e. the resistor, capacitor and inductor)have parts of each other intrinsic to them.

Calculating a circuitis way easier when dealing with only the ideal parts of the components.When building the calculated circuit some surprises may arise becauseof omitting the parasitic values in the calculations. This becomes moredistinctly the higher the working frequency or the faster the switchingtransitions of the circuit. Even the wires or leads connecting thecomponents have resistance capacitance and inductance. For the theorybehind it for example read Ivor Catt about electromagnetism.

By using a battery with a greater voltage the strength is increased. You can also add more batteries to a series circuit to increase the strength. What factors affect the strength of an electromagnet? By increasing the number of coils of wire around an object can increase the strength of the electromagnet. How would they Dodge this ?
