The delay time I think is the instant triigger side receives signal to instant gate of internal mosfet receives signal and the mosfet itself is lightning quick. Evidence of this is that there is always very good flyback/backemf recoil spikes to collect into caps with steering diode. So the shutoff of mosfet must be working very fast. 
So the big delay time is in the isolation circuitry which means you can readjust timing of trigger side signals to compensate for this delay just as long as not too fast of frequency of course.
Could be your wasted amps with mosfets is because you are not steering away the backemf recoil/flyback energy into external capacitors with steering diodes as that energy fights against the current flow through the mosfet and raises the draw
....i always get a little better efficiency to primary draw when backemf recoil/flyback recovery circuit is connected. If you leave mosfet cloded for two seconds and look at current drop you will see one thing but pulze mosfet 2ms on 2ms off and connect backemf recoil flybavk circuit to fill cap you will see somethong else not so bad (i think)
