Or just melt a good dielectric like plastic and let it cool down while having an electric field through it. When it solidifies the electric field becomes frozen in the molecules of the dielectric.

The electric field in an electret is stored like the magnetic field of a permanent magnet. I don't see why this is free energy more than the permanent magnets of a PM generator. The high voltage if stacking several electrets could ionize the air and sort the charges like done in the Methernitha Linden converter.
