DaveI made a very nice Gray tube, years ago to the best specs that were available.The cage did give me a signal, but I was not able to communicate with anyone regarding the use of this piece of apparatus for, it seemed, of no interest to anyone. I still have it with my hoard of" might have been" interesting artifacts, stuffed in cardboard boxes, sitting in the corner of a barn. I moved them when I moved, for reasons , even I don't know. I supose perhaps like some crazy artist, because I made them, as beautiful , as I could, because I could, and hated to see them tossed in the garbage.I see this era, and what we are doing, as pioneering, and sometime, someone, might appreciate the heritage of our efforts, even if at the time, no one does.I feel your message is like a blast from the past, out of some other time zone.Are you, in fact, working with Gray tubes?It broke my heart to not find magic there.Perhaps, I just missed the secret password and was knocking on a door that no one answered?Cheers, and good to hear from youWarren

In my most humble opinion, all of those that attempted a replication of the CST failed to understand the working criteria of the original Valve.
The addition of the Silver tips is, I believe, by one of those replicators and was NOT required.
What all of these people failed to understand was that the unit operated without a spark and was a PLASMA event that was taking place at the gap.
One simple reason for its bottom Carbon rod to be made adjustable just to the point where the spark extinguished.
Imagine how long the Tube would have lasted with a spark ongoing full time?
This would have been similar to the old Carbon Arc Projectors that actually used up the Carbon rod to supply the white light and often failed as the Carbon rod had to replaced (1940/50s).
You actually adjusted the speed of the rod being consumed for the best lighting effect.
I actually have a bench which I call the 'EV Gray Bench' and is where I do all of my high voltage work and where the plasma event was discovered.
For all of those at EV Gray - this is what you are supposed to be here for and more to do with respect for one another without any expletives of any manner.
Now, I have given you some most valuable information and hope that this may lead to you also discovering a plasma event at the spark gap without the spark.
This is what Tesla was doing with his Magnet around the Spark Gap as he wanted to extinguish the spark as quickly as possible as this is where the magic begins.
There is also another modification that I have passed on here earlier with respect to Diodes in his motor schematic.
