EduardoThank you for that inspirational link regarding geothermal heating and cooling. Oh, to have soil deeper than the sod, rather than the Canadian Shield poking out here, and there, all over the place, just under the grass.I think it might be best, in my case to drill into the rock, making a hydraulic drilling rig attachment for my Catepillar digger. It is just a hydraulic motor that can turn a pipe chuck which one screws sections of pipe to as the cutter end descends into the rock. You need a mast with a pulley to hoist one section of pipe straight up and allow it to rotate as it sinks into the rock.I should be able to weld an attachment to the front arm for this, and the digger is a good solid base platform with gobs of hydraulic fluid energy available from the three cylinder diesel. This is a winter workshop project.Heat is needed to be able to work in the workshop. It will have to be done in stages. This Winter, it will have to be air to liquid heat pump, to heat the liquid in the floor tubes from the atmosheric heat outside using electricity, at a certain advantge over resistance electrical heaters. This sucks, but is a transitional solution, until geothermal can be put together.Another solution may be solar heated water stored in the concrete silo, which is in excellent condition. At present, I am racing to keep all the barns standing, before the heavy winds, again, attack them. There have been years of bad repairs done before me, by patch and fiddle, solutions.I am trying to do it once, and for all, solved, yet keep the charm, and rustic ambiance.Cheers Warren

Wazza (affectionate Strine for Warren),Off Subject, but could be inspirational to heat your barn with something like this guy is doing in Nebraska, cold as buggery like your place, specially if you have acreage and digger.Cheers

PopsI am busy insulating the roof, with foam, and digging the floor up to put foam down there too in this 150 year old stone barn. The stone barn will be my new workshop, and hopefully heated in the winter. I am putting plastic tubing in a cast concrete floor to make it a large heated mass. If nothing more, at least I hope to keep the floor above freezing this next winter, using a heat pump.Last winter, it was brutally cold at -37 C and not possible to do any machining work in there, except in brief spurts, at a drill press. The big post and beam wooden barn is coming along well, having repaired the foundation stone walls, and now repairing or replacing the posts and beams as needed. This should provide a good large space for any projects, plus a South facing roof with solar panels. This whole project, is for research, and testing, at least, in my imagination.I have never had the luxury of project space like this, when living in down town Toronto.I was incredibly lucky to convince a Harbour Commission man, to allow me a space, to build a sailing schooner, on a weed covered patch, of unused harbour land, back in the 1970's, free, for almost seven years, out in the open, 2.5 m from the water.I could have never even imagined such a space as this, to be able to work in.Having testing facilities, is a blessing for any of us, having worked on the kitchen table, cramped basement, and having to move setups, because there is greater need for that space, by others.Pops, I hope to be able to set up a working model system, so that it can demonstrate the concept, that we all can be free of the energy lords.I have confidence in my abilities to communicate the results, to a wider audience, when the time comes.I am hardly surprised that resonance is an inportant factor. I sure like analog controls, if they can be made to work, somehow. Turn a knob, and tune it, not that I am so clever at it, but it seems to suit me.Cheers Warren
