Hi JoeThat's not a bad idea.I can and will try that.I have managed to get the one horse 120 volt 60hz single phase motor to turn the 100 lb flywheel up to about at least 2000 rpm without snapping the breaker, now that I am using the Lovejoy precision sliding motor mount.By turning a crank wheel I advance the motor away from the rotational centre of the big wheel tightening the belt very gradually, allowing the industrial width belt to slip slightly rather than fiercely load the motor. The suggestion regarding using some soap on the belt is also a good one to cut down the coefficiency of belt friction enough, to allow the time for the wheel to increase velocity relative to the motor pulley rim speed which will be faster until they match velocity. It seems that part is working. It is also able to turn the pulleys and belt to the generator, giving 3600 + rpm no load from generator yet. This whole proccess involves balancing pulleys, belts, stiffening generator and motor fastenings, and ensuring smoothoperation from all the drive train so it is quiet, and efficient.Once that is stable, we can measure how much power is going in from the wall socket. The next challenge is to see what the generator can do.It is a 3600 rpm TroyBilt 60 hz 120/240 volt 2.6 kwI need to know what, if anything, I can get out of this 1 hp motor driving this particular generator, using all this apparatus. I can't calculate all the various frictions, and drag issues.I am just looking at the bulk numbers.Close is good enough. If we have to clean bearings of grease, it is not a real practical system, & becomes just a theoretical system. I have a 3 hp and a 5 hp single phase 120 volt motor on each of my air compressors. The 3 hp is 15 ampsThey are there, waiting, if needed. This whole adventure is about weight, velocity, and time, with that weird wild card thrown into the mix, centrifugal rotation, relative perhaps to the Earth' s rotation, which maybe connected to the clockwork of the universe, right hete in my own home.Cheers Warren

Hi Warren , is the 20 amp breaker tripping when you are trying to run up motor and flywheel .There are different type of breakers .There is one for motors like well pumps for example ( they have alonger delay before tripping to let motor start up ). Think they are d type on this side of the pond . Probably something similar over your side . Talk to electrician or better yet if you can talk to knowledgeable guy in store /shop that supplies electricians .
