I forgot to mention that the pole faces points into the center of the stator coil while the Gramme ring has the poles come out between the coils. The Gramme ring has the coils in series both current and magnetic field wise. The Cotnoir stator has the poles in parallel magnetic field wise and in series current wise.

 Also Luc is doing this with a 30 pole small cheap genset out of a 750W two cycle motor spun genset and he shows here how the coils wind (not around a single pole like stupid drawing I put up a few days ago) which shows how one of the eventually lapped phases is wound note coils share same slot where they "connect" at ends:
