It is almost like a six poled Gramme ring generator where the rotor is made the stator and the commutation is made by the relays.

 Also Luc is doing this with a 30 pole small cheap genset out of a 750W two cycle motor spun genset and he shows here how the coils wind (not around a single pole like stupid drawing I put up a few days ago) which shows how one of the eventually lapped phases is wound note coils share same slot where they "connect" at ends:
