DougI have a heavy industrial Fairbanks Morse 1800 rpm generator, that I removed from a flathead gas engine, did the stub shaft thing to, put it on an engine mount for belt driving off a diesel engine.An interesting aspect of that stand by genset was that there was a starter winding to turn that generator into a motor, for starting the old flathead gas engine on demand.Although it puts out 60 cycle ac, it also has a full comutator and brushes.I haven't a clue how to hook it up, but did a super job restoring it mechanically.At over 100lbs, it is no toy.If somebody clever with these things would like to help me figure out how to hook it up electrically, we might be able to see if this is a workable concept.I can pull off the covers, and take cell photos, measure the continuity or whatever, with the wires, if somebody can advise me. I know it needs capacitors. I have lots of oil filled rotoverter types.It might be an interesting one to use.I have a suitable heavy welded angle iron table stand to mount the cast iron flywheel.The other approach is to go straight DC motors and generators all the way, which is super easy for me. Inverter and variac, rectifier, plus belt and pulley ratios give lots of latitudeI'll finish getting the flywheel mounted and then we will see.Cheers Warren

Now I am switching back over to the idea that that is a 220V washing machine motor universal AC/DC type, and the genset generator is the generator of the two...
You can hear the generator slow a little bit from the lenz law lugging of the light when he plugs it in....so this makes me be more sure it is real thing. The motor probably over-powers any lenz law effect, at least up to a point it will...
