Hi Guys
I have a friend who has a machine shop where the machines are primarily three phase 250 volt, and he has moved where there is no 3 phase power. He needs the full horsepower the motors provide.
The motors in many of his machines are worm driven gear reduction drives integrated into the gear boxes.
They are beautiful machines, but right now useless.
I know about RV from only my own experience. My motors are terrific for what I use them for, but one is looking at 1/3 the rated horsepower.
How can 3 phase power reliabl y be made from single phase in a simple practical manner.
Talking out of my hat, based on an old surplus genset I had when building my boat, what about a motor generator set?
My unit was a 4 cylinder Jeep motor driving a three phase generator, of which I only used one of the phases to run power tools. I am sure it was at least WW2 vintage. It ran just fine, but this is a different situation, and different times.
Cheers Warren
