 I am not sure about KKs invertor circuit, some people in comments asked to see his circuit to turn the DC into AC but I did not see him respond with a link or any information to the circuit but it must be very simple, as the circuit board is shown and itlooks super simple ....maybe in earilier videos he explains also you could pop him a note on comments or direct to his channel or whatever....I will guess it is a signal generator (which he is using in the 2nd video I posted) that drives some sort of 555 circuit that inverts the signal every other time and to make a good sinewave the inversion would happen at zero voltage.....probably your square wave thing will work perfectly fine...
 I am planning on making a bitorroid transformer here in Minsk with bundled green eneameled soft steel flortst wire as the core material and make sure the flux gets carried over from one secondary to the other with that extra flux-bar-path top and bottom...
