If you want to try something good, when you wind your motor coils, start from the backend of your core, (end to be away from rotor magnets) and then bend the wire 90 degrees when at the end of the row of winds, and pull it back straight to the start (backend of core) then bend wire again 90 degrees, and continue winds for the next layer and all winds going in same direction....you might want to insulate and protect that straight-back pulled section of wire to prevent chaffing form the row of wind going over top of it, such as coating wire with epoxy while winding, or small pieces of tape to encase or heat shrink or whatever as over time vibrations can wear down the varnish coating over the magnet wire...my favorite way is to just coat all wire with quick dry epoxy while winding up coils -.just be sure to wear throw away rubber gloves you will have no problems with the extra mess....other good way is wrap the entire layer/row when finished with with Teflon plumbing tape, the cut thin strip of electrical tape to cover over the top of the straight back pulled portion of wind...
Anyways these are called directionally wound motor coil winds, and they concentrate the flux to hit the rotor magnets in a more concentrated and more powerful cannon-like blast against the rotor magnets....this is similar to difference between the winds inside a omni-directional microphone, which picks up all sounds everywhere in room, as compared to more popular uni-idirectional microphone, that has directional type winds inside of them, so that only the singers voice is picked up instead of everything in room so better recordings can be made with no bleeding through of un wanted sounds.......
For generator coils, I don't think much difference there, just do those back and forth regular type coil winds unless perhaps the generator coil winds are pulsed to push or pull rotor magnets for brief time...
Robert Adams most advanced motor I heard had copper tube as windings, and he water cooled them and ran it on 400V but this is just from hear-say....maybe the cores were cooled too and/or instead of hollow magnet wire... if you search on youtube "truthbeeknown" on you can maybe contact the very nice guy Ian-Coke Richards, who knows all about Robert Adams motors, and in fact he even talked to him on the phone a couple years before Robert Adams died..here is link below to one of his videos....he used to have a very good website but it is not up anymore that was called Mintakafulcrum.net
