Why the huge top load when we are concerned with surface and evanescent
waves?

A much smaller sphere will work as long as one can move it 30 feet. 

Tesla was using the top load for tuning and to suppress the E field also
this schematic is missing the extra coil though you do have an extra cap
in the receiver in order to tune the phase of each diode which is quite
brilliant.

My vector analyzer goes down to DC, when plugging ground into the port I
do not see anything large at 7.53 but rather at 11.5 just as Dr Tesla
calculated.  The huge 60 cycle magnetic is all wasted energy we should
be harvesting also as it should not create any losses for the utility in
far field.

Depends on frequency and circuit design and how its matched within the correct node phase . .
Tesla did not have large balls to play with ...

the Chinese got big balls  wile USA got none ! now trump- put a 45% toll tax on them ! and no local ball manufacturer !
