RonI used to tune a Honda 600 sports car. This tiny little car had Babbitt bearings and a 13,000 red line!I also have a 1934 Graham super charger with Babbitt bearings pressure fed from the oil pump.It was geared up to run at least 10,000 rpmCheers Warren

Use your head man.  High speed steam turbines were being built atthe same time using high speed roller and ball bearings thatlasted many years. very reliable.

Great information as always!

Just wondered what Dr Tesla may have used for bearingsback then before off the shelf silicon nitride and such. Something spinning that fast would eat up bearings if theywere not choice.  Perhaps they were ball as you alluderather than hydrodynamic fluid bearings.

The basic principle behind the Tesla Turbine is theDe Laval Nozzle for it converts the maximum amountof potential energy, Pressure/ Heat into KineticEnergy with proper design and application. If youdon't understand this principle, best you leave theturbine off your to-do list.

I explained all this in my 2016 Presentation at theTesla Conference. You have to make your condensablevapor/gas transition to supersonic before impingingupon the runner disk pack and then go subsoniccreating a shock wave that drives the boundary layeron the disk surface so you get the maximum bang foryour buck.  99% of all experimenters do notunderstand this.  The driving media must be acondensable vapor so that you have a partialvaccum,  on the cool side and up to around 120 PSIdriving pressure on the hot side.
