Warren,

I ask the following as you seem to have some experience with these caps
and are tops at resourcefulness. Sorry for so many questions but I
assume you can distill things down a little.

What are some inexpensive good performing insulating oils one can use to
make the HV caps I think it was Mohammed turned us on to.

In fact what are some of the best materials and ways of moving forward
on this?
I am in South America so in somewhat of a DIY materials sitch.

What is the best type of adhesive to glue the aluminum foil to the
plastic insulator, assuming polyethylene?

Not sure that rolls of poly are available here to match the length of
the aluminum foil plates so what is the recommended way to make splices?

Are there any automotive oils that will work, or are they all poor
insulators?

Thanks,

Mick

Tesla used mineral oil and had a hivoltage adjustable one in a wooded box
.they even had a way to heat the oil to remove any gases .

MickI have had excellent dielectric luck with ordinary hot glue, which oddly enough, works well on polyethylene
sheet plastic.Spray contact cement, like 3M works well on the aluminium foil to polyethylene. Electrodes can be made from soft aluminium wire welding wire, tightly crimped with aluminium foil and cyano acrylic crazy glue fastened, or I like 3M magic mending tape, as it works well with all these materials. Capacitors made with these materials seem very good for high voltages, even well above 1.000 volts, as long as you leave a 1/4" poly overlap.I roll them up and put them in toilet paper tubes, letting the wire come out either end, and jot gluing a cardboard disc, as a cap.Spray with a clear laquer, or shelac to protect from moisture, measure and mark the capacitance, throw in your drawer of capacitors.Cheers Warren

Are there any automotive oils that will work, or are they all poor
