NormanI see nothing in the literature regarding my idea of driving a Van de Graff generator with a static electricity motor since the only force on the shaft is the resistance caused by the very slight friction of the drive belt and pulleys.My Van de Graff generator used a 1/10 hp variable speed shunt wound dc Bodine motor from the early seventies.There was no detectable change when energy built up prior to dishcharge of the sparks or after the discharge cause rpm variations.I'll bet one can be run on one of those 3D printed static motors. It would be interesting to observe whether the energy differential could be enough to loop.I have not built a high voltage " static electricity" motor as of yet, but they seem simple enough.I would rather buy one from some young person, keen on his 3 D printer employment.The software is downloadable over the net.I saw one that uses utility knife blades as discharge devices to rotate the armature.This is dinky power compared to what is needed around here though.I need 10 to 20 KW, fairly soon, and will need more before long.I hate to buy diesel generators, that will be just a waste, in a year or two.
I have some serious needs that must be addressed, as the infrestructure is happening now, before winter.Floor radiant heat is a givenEnergy to supply that heat can be changed as to source.There will be liquid flowing through tubes in the concrete, running to a heat exchanger. From there, I am not sure what will be done, as a number of changeable options are open, and available.No, I am not doing a nuclear reactor.Heat pumps are pretty efficient, and leading condenders.Air to air is easy. Ground source is a contender, but I am up to my butt in major structural rebuilding of several barns, that have been let go for half a century, or more.I am putting up three sections of scafolding high and many towers to replace whole sides of barn planking.I have found that my old wood is worth twice what new , made to order, sawn pine barn planking, from the local saw mill, is worth, as the fashion for rustic wood in city condo appartments, is crazy. This siding is over a100 years old, and just about worn out.I am pouring concrete floors over 4 inches of high density foam with plastic tube fastened to the re-rod grid on top.I have scarfed new bottom ends on the rotten 10"x10" posts, doing glued "dutchmen" ship type, repairs, stronger than new.They sit on solid stone slabs on bedrock now, with no wood to soil contact.Energy has to be factored into this whole complex of buildings very soon.Cheers Warren
