This is the simple Coilbanger circuit, and the ones that I have drawn and recreated with German designation.
I have flashed it about 2 times but I've seen broken LED lamps that flashed even though they were turned off.

I'm just wondering how the flyback diode over the xenon tube can direct the energy back into the capacitor.

As we all know, the polarity of a coil changes when the magnetic field collapses unless we can force it in the right direction.

Every Mosfet or IGBT has a freewheeling diode already integrated so that one could also pulse a coil and achieve this effect.

Here is a drawing from Hektor that makes me think.
