Did you know a solar panel & controller that charges battery at 14.5v at 10amps takes 145 watts output from PV panel. Alternative about twice that power must come from any non-solar source for appearance of equivalent 145 watts charging power to that battery. Why? Short answer is non-solar power must apply twice the voltage to overcome battery back-voltage. Measure your a/c powered battery charger input W into battery compared to line power cost. Compare a 100watt RATED solar panel battery current and voltage power into same battery. 100 w of solar current did what it took 200 w line source to do, same work/effect! Amazing considering 98% eff new SST battery chargers. 50% of the power is wasted in a line powered charge circuit folks! But every availible DC watt typed on PV ratings sticker converts gets used by the battery. When your FE box ain't chooching.. During no or weak PV harvest don't use a generator or utility to only charge batteries, use it on all other loads and/or to help bring charge current to available solar/other charge current minimizing charge time, cost and noise. Shake flooded cells often release bubbles, keep acid SG even. Trojan T-105RE new carbon/graphene lead tech. so far so good. Botton line I measure more than the rated PV power being used by the battery, go figure that in your hardware lab, what say u?

Hector, Use batteries to charge other batteries? What is the ratio of source to load? Dave, Pretty interesting, don't understand why solar can overcome battery back voltage easier unless it's a different type of electricity.

I found, when I was living aboard the boat, operating my home made wind chargers to charge a deep cycle battery bank, that the wind chargers did a super job of charging the batteries for some reason, much better than shore power, on those rare occassions when we were plugged in. They were simply permanent magnet DC motors being turned by a wooden 2X4 5 foot diameter propeller. The wind would change, causing fluctuations in prop speed, and voltage produced. There was a diode to prevent the batteries from turning the prop when the wind died.Yet, this primitive simple system, actually putting out 0 to 30 volts, or more, hitting a big 400 amp plus, 12 volt battery bank, using perhaps only 7 amps delivered from that dc motor up there in the rigging would out perform a good quality marine battery charger.Bedini's chargers seem to do similar things too. I am not sure what is happening, but I suspect we are dealing with a quantum physics event concerning micro crystal lead on the battery plate surfaces, though other than Richard Feynman, I havent read any serious studies concerning this phenomenon. That old dude with the super battery technology, may know all about it, but is, so far, not publishing it, that I know of.Cheers Warren Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Fri, Mar 16, 2018 at 8:21 PM, [email protected] [EVGRAY]<[email protected]> wrote: That i cannot answer as i have strict orders from the hierarchy to keep top secret .... giving that will be like giving a dynamite stick to children .... and many had blown up already ...(you all already had the preliminary answer ) (H) ---In [email protected], <mkjekyll@...> wrote : Hector, Use batteries to charge other batteries? Let me advise,MPPT do match impedance only to a voltage biased load, a battery.
What you want is a buck converter with a max power seeking control via conventional feedback pin on the converter.

Hmm, Hector, if these mppt chargers were the automatic impedance matching we're looking for, one less thing to worry about would be.
