Hello Warren, I am sure that this is an interesting experiment but I have no DC brush motors in large numbers. I will continue to deal with the transverter, but I curiously pursue this topic. If you still have engines I would continue experimenting with them. Greetings Sven

Sven

You are making these DC motors way too complicated in your head.
They are very, very simple inside, and out with no hidden diodes.
They are large enough to see every part of them for what it is. They did have slotted fine aluminium discs on one end of the motor shaft which I removed, as not needed for my first intended use of them.
I did build 14, or so wind generators in my shop, making wind generators for my sail boat friends, who also keep their boats away from docks, on moorings, far from electricity, here in Toronto, and where ever they cruise.
Have you not seen the motor from an exercise tread mill machine?
It is very safe to pull these motors apart once you learn the trick to re-install the brushes, using fish line.
If the motors suffer a big knock on the outside of the case, it can dislodge the magnets, requiring them to be epoxy glued back in place, or I use crazy glue (cyano acryilic glue).
Other than changing the brushes every three years of constant use out of doors, (and propellers after a hail storm, they work steady, and reliable, as the wind.
You can get up to 17 amps into 12 volt battery banks at peak winds as generators, but typically, 6 to 7 amps.
Solar panels are way less trouble. Wind is obsolete.
Cheers Warren

Hello Douglas,

but then you should build FWBR yourself with fast diodes so that the transients are all recorded for the next engine after the FWBR.
I'm curious what engines Warren has used.
Whether the DC motors have installed diodes but you could determine with a diode tester, but then the direction of rotation would be fixed because you can not change the polarity.

The Siemens 1HU engines are from the '80s and' 90s whether it's been thinking of something to effectively protect the brushes from transients and sparking sparks.

SvenThey have taken away all my motors, generators, and experiments plus all my test equipment. It will all be delivered on tuesday too our new home. It may take weeks to unpack it allCheers Warren

Hi Warren,

then that's just how it is, when you move, other things are more important.

SvenThey also moved that monster three phase transformer, ha haNow I will have a proper place to leave it set up for replicating your experiments with Transverters, if I am able to do it too.One guy thought he could lift it. He then called another saying" man is this heavy!" the two strugged, then called in a third. I noticed they left it on the four wheel dolly even on the truck, after swearing and grunting getting it up the ramp. I always used a chain falls to lift it from a steel beam. The movers are super macho about lifting things.Cheers Warren

Hello Warren,

I'm probably stronger than I thought. laughing.
No, I built a small wooden chute for my cellar stairs and let it slowly slide down a rope along with the pallet. Then I got a cheap heavy duty wheeled truck and pushed it off the pallet. The hardest thing was to mechanically decouple it from the trolley. Since it was mounted horizontally, I could build vibration dampers under the brackets for that I needed the most strength. Yes 112kg for a 9.9 kva transformer is quite heavy, because it has many extra windings, so I found it so interesting so I can adjust the impedance and resonance winding directly on the transformer. I could also wire the resonance winding so high that the resonant circuit exceeds 1000 volts. But capacitors that get involved are very hard to come by.

For the diode plug I find it easier to do because high voltages and small capacitances discharge faster like smaller voltages and larger capacities.

I am now lying slightly above 600 V U peak and 1130 V U peak peak.

I do not know which units are in use with you.

Uss Us or Un or Urms I do not know if that tells you!?!

Best regards

Sven
Hi Warren,

I wanted to build everything modular so that you can easily separate things and use them for other experiments. For my big isolation transformer, I also cared for a skateboard and mounted it so you can push everything aside.

I wanted to divide the transverter into 4 modules.

1. 3 phase transformer with capacitor adaptation and measurements
2. The sheath current filter I still need to test or try out how much capacity I need to have usable power for the diode plug.
3. Diode plug extraction.
4. 230 / 24V transformer with batteries and large backup capacitors.

I still have to build the capacitive sheath current filter. I hope that the interference minimized by the charging and discharging of the diode plug capacitors or no disturbances and Leistungsrefflektion more. Common mode noise.

Sven
SvenI have 5 x 100uf , 4000 volt energy storage capacitors, plus four 2.5uf perhaps 10,000 volt caps and an odd collection of mica caps.I also tried making caps myself from aluminium fiol and stout polethylene sheet. They seem to be very easy to make and are super cheap to do so. They are not compact compared to some commercial caps but when fitted into varnished cardboard mailing tubes, seem preety workable in circuits. They don't arc at 10.000 volts.Cheers Warren

SvenThe modular system approach seems very well organized, and excellent in every way.I have used a type of that idea with my capacitor tuning boxes for the RV which I have been very pleased with, in use.

Hello Warren,

I would be happy about 1000V capacitors otherwise you'll get problems with the isolation anyway.

These capacitors must be huge.

I still have a lot of Rotoverter that I can put in series then hold that for now.

Otherwise Electronicon is the first choice, on ebay they occasionally sell some oil-filled models with anti-abrasion protection.

regards

Sven
