Hi Warren,
Induction motors are both motor and generator in one device. The capacitive loading by the capacitor makes it a generator without attachment to the grid. It just needs a little remanent magnetism to build up the field.

It looks like the motor to the right is driven by the motor to the left through the belts. The driven motor to the right is loaded at a single phase by the capacitor. This is a pure reactive load except for the heating of the wires.
The motor to the left is not wired exactly as Hector's RV.

Besides just measuring with meters, is it possible to hook up a load, like another RV motor, or something, and let them run until the bearings crap out.
