Many of the people here working with energy harvesting need to realize that the Grandmother Earth works with high impedance. Design your circuits as such, do not go low impedance until the end and decouple the low/ high/low systems from one another so as not to short out the second stage.
Perhaps one has seen a loading of an output drop power input requirements, this simply means the final sink is higher impedance than previous, as power supply's have a lot of self feedback that keeps their impedance very low else they could not source current. Decouple from the initial supply so the supply does not short the voltage amplifier.
It's extremely easy to short out natures source, this way no one is electrocuted leaning on tall trees, however that tree/antenna has huge potential else it could not scavenge the carbon from the atmosphere to create wood to grow.
Very few designers, other than microprocessor designers now understand how to work in high impedance circuits as we no longer use vacuum tubes often. JFET's are high impedance MOSFETS are high on one side low on the other.
In the old days of tubes or anyone who uses JFET's understands that the oil from ones hands left on a PCB can short the circuit.
If one thinks about Steven Mark's mention of how stylus on record players started as palm fronds and kept wearing out while harder and harder materials were used from steel all the way until diamond was utilized, and no one can understand why the soft vinyl does not wear out immediately with a diamond stylus, in fact after a time the vinyl will wear out the diamond. Because the turntable is a physical high impedance system in which the stylus floats on a sea of sound until someone goes low impedance and shorts it our by bumping the needle and scratching the record.
