I'm not sure I follow. If you mean one phased motors having a help or start winding this winding has a capacitor in series to make a phase shifted current. The big motors are three phased. For two speeds the pole pair number is changed. For reducing the start current the motor is started in star connection and switched to delta connection. I.e. the voltage is changed across the motor windings.
The inductance of the motor windings is what makes the power reactive. At high load the power becomes more active. It's like a transformer without any load. This acts like an inductor which has lagging reactive power. The current lags the voltage. When loading the transformer its secondary induces an opposite directed magnetic field which cancels the magnetic field of the primary coil. This makes the power become resistive or active or real.

Ole, I was referring to the old style motors that require a certain amount of active on the grid. There are still a lot of those in factories with the tapped winding's for two speed operation like the old lathe motors. My understanding, which may be incorrect as I never worked in distribution, is that AC induction motors require some reactive power to run properly notwithstanding the lagging PF they add themselves.

Traditionally factories having high inductive reactive power puts capacitor loads to force back the power factor closer to active power. I.e. power factor closer to one. Now many motors are controlled by frequency controllers. Such electronic devices must have power factor correction in them. If having low power factor at high power you are billed for that as it wastes energy in heating the wires. Modern smart energy meters do measure reactive power and even communicates with the power distribution companies to better be able to keep the grid stable. Many houses deliver power back to the grid by their free energy solar panels. In this country (DK) with lots of wind turbines the grid has proven itself stable even when running the whole country on only wind power during days with much wind. I think this is attributed to a smart grid with communication between the wind turbines. No more power must be made than is being consumed to prevent the frequency of the grid in changing. Now there are active power factor correction integrated circuit controllers put in many power supplies. I guess they will work for motors too.

I don't need the RV I have other ways that are more portable. I was just pointing out why you don't get funding when there are people in the background who have been waiting to fund.. Free energy is a weird duck, some people can do it for awhile then try as they might cannot replicate their earlier efforts then often get caught faking it. I probably would have built an RV though for the learning but realized that getting stuck on an advanced modality and asking for help would be like milking a stone, and I don't live where stones have milk.
You designed something got a bunch of people to follow you. Well at least you did a hell of a lot more than most, but in the end denied your students advancement rather than the inverse per your claim. The "people don't read" argument lacks merit.
