Hector,

I wouldn't call it a mistake, advantage of air inductors, they don't
overheat!  Only mistake was the stroke.

Also your sink was probably very loud before it became too hot.

Have to go to longitudinal for high power, overlay the magnetic on the
high voltage- yep, doesn't work with transverse.  One is close when
everything gets bristly.  I have heard this happens with lightening, and
if you feel the bristles and hear the hiss your probably about to be way
to close to something you shouldn't be..

I am going about it the other way though, low voltage and those spikes
are too fast to harvest direct, need moderation.
Striping out the E is interesting though as one can hold a little magnet
from across the room and turn it ever so slightly then the squealing
changes tone, not sure how long the core will last with this earbleed. 

Interesting how much power a transistor can switch without heat...
